• Briksdalsbreen hike

    September 8, 2024 in Norway ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

After our gorgeous drive it was time for our adventures for the day - a short hike to Briksdalsbreen! This hike was so beautiful! There were of course giant rocky cliffs and waterfalls and so much fun! The first part of the hike was along a river and was nice and cool. Then we got to this waterfall where you have to walk across a bridge to go by it and there was sooo much mist coming off if you got soaked! So much fun!! And so much water! It was so loud! Then you climbed up along the side of the waterfall and back along the river until you got to the glacier lake. The glacier was so blue! It was really pretty and another waterfall was coming down nearby from another glacier tongue. This glacier and the one from yesterday are part of the same national park and they were both one of the 25 different tongues of the plateau glacier Jostedalsbreen. Now we could have someone hike straight up the rocky cliffs to get to the top of the glacier, but we decided not to do that as well…it was an expert route and you probably need technical skills and it sounded exhausting! It was also surprisingly warm at the glacier lake (and the whole hike - we way overpacked our bags with warm clothes! They were not needed at all!).

We had lunch at a picnic table that overlooked the glacier and the waterfalls which was pretty nice, though when we were almost done eating it got so windy! All of our things were trying to blow away! We finished lunch and headed back to the car spying on the lower parking lot which had a bridge across the river down there. It was a really nice hike. So pretty the entire way and the sun kept popping out from the clouds. I stopped like every two feet to take photos as it was just gorgeous!!
