  • Statue of Liberty

    July 27, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

After some chicken and chips for lunch I boarded the free Staten Island ferry! This passes close by the Statue of Liberty and again offers great views of Manhattan, particularly at the back of the boat but there was absolutely nobody there for some reason!Read more

  • Tudor Bridge

    July 27, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

A quick stop at Tudor Bridge was next. I believe that there is a shot in one of the Spiderman's filmed here. It looked right onto the Chrysler Building and also at the UN headquarters on the opposite side!Read more

  • Roosevelt Island Tramway

    July 27, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

As we headed towards the late afternoon I boarded the Roosevelt Island Tramway. These red cable car type vehicles take 7 minutes to ascend, cross the West Channel and descend into Roosevelt Island.

Fun fact: It was once an Impractical Jokers punishment that Joe had to stand on the top of one of the cable cars dressed as Fat Man whilst it crossed the river. Whilst watching the show I didn't think it was a bad punishment but now I realise how scary it must have been!

  • Pier 35 at Sunset

    July 27, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

After leaving the ferry at pier 11 I wandered down to pier 35 to enjoy the very last of the sunset over Manhattan, with Brooklyn to the left and their corresponding bridges down river ahead. What a way to end the day! Another busy one racking up 30,000 steps 💪Read more

  • Midtown Manhattan

    July 28, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Today was a day of pretty random stops all in all. First up I got off the metro outside the New York Times HQ. I then headed past the revolving doors from Elf to 29th street to take a few pics of the 29th (Wallasey) sign with the Empire State Building in the background.Read more

  • Flatiron Building & Harry Potter

    July 28, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

My next stops were a Flatiron Building absolutely covered in scaffolding and then a Harry Potter shop with everything you could ever imagine. It must have sold 50+ different types of wands including those of charachters I've never heard of and a few of those I have heard of, but thought why on earth would you want the wand of Malfoy's mum or Professor Slughorn (about 1/5 of the wands are pictured here). Similarly, it had extensive ranges of Hufflepuff merchandise, equal to that of Gryffindor and still I beg who is buying Hufflepuff merch. Either way, an impressive shop.Read more

  • The Vessel and Hudson Yards

    July 28, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 29 °C

My next stop was to a very interesting building named 'The Vessel' and an area of skyscrapers known as Hudson Yards. It had great views over the west river and even of the Empire State Building!

  • Random Manhattan

    July 28, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

From Little Island I took a walk some way down the river. It was a lovely pedestrianised area that I took no photos of.

What I can provide photos of however is:
    Pic 1: Stat Wars art.
    Pic 2: The Friends apartment.
    3 & 4: Washington Square.
5: Me eating an apple in the Big Apple.
6: Serhant HQ from the Netflix series 'Owning Manhattan'.
7, 8 & 9: Ghostbusters HQ which is also a real working fire station!
10: The HQ of YouTuber Casey Neistat, not overly glamorous.

I was heading to see the fair ground / fire bell Banksy and just happened to get off at the metro stop of the Natural History Museum which I'd forgotten was even in New York. Of course this is where A Night at the Museum is set. I then headed on towards the Banksy.Read more

  • NYCFC v Queretaro

    July 28, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

This evenings activity was New York City FC v Queretaro. Previous representatives of NYCFC have been Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo, David Villa, however I'd heard of precisely zero of their current squad.

The game took place at the Yankee Stadium, home of course of the New York Yankees, and became the 100th ground I've seen a match at. Not a bad place to mark the centenary.

The game itself was part of a tournament between at 29 MLS teams and the 18 Mexican Premier Division teams, this being the first game of the group stage. The match itself was relatively uneventful but NYC missed some very good chances. In the end it was a 0-0 draw but with a penalty shootout at the end for an extra point which NYC ended up winning.

  • Rain & Central Park

    July 29, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

In a few days I was set to leave New York using the Frontier airlines GoWild! pass. I thought I'd have a go at signing up and discovered that you needed to be a US citizen to buy one. Oh no. So, I spent last night devising a route of bookable flights through all of my desired destinations, and spent this morning booking said flights and a few of the accommodations. It was also absolutely lashing down so wasn't a bad time to do it.

Since I'd covered pretty much all of New York in my first few days I was a relatively free spirit today. So I wandered through the east side of Central Park and read my Kindle for a while at a lovely spot l by a lake. I also passed my the MET art gallery and an Alice in Wonderland monument.

  • 5th Avenue

    July 29, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

5th avenue is arguably New York's most famous street so I wandered from Central Park all the way to the very end of it. Passing all of the major shops plus the Plaza, Trump Tower, the cathedral and of course another Ryder lorry. I treated myself to a Corn Dog at the end.Read more

  • Final Evening in NYC

    July 29, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

My final evening in NYC (for now) I spent around the WTC and then watched the sunset on the west shores of Manhattan. This meant I'd walked from 103rd street way past the end of 1st street. It was a lovely evening and a pleasant way to round of 4 nights in New York!Read more

  • NYC > Boston

    July 30, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

After 4 busy days in NYC it was time for probably the first proper travel day in a while, with a 4.5 hours bus in the middle of the day to Boston!

First however it was time to wave goodbye to my bug rucksack as I leave it in storage until I return to NYC at the end of my trip! I took the smallest storage unit they had (4 ft x 4 ft) which my bag nowhere near filled up! For £40 for the month in Manhattan you could definitely sleep in this space if you curled up a bit! Follow for more bargain New York tips!

The journey to Boston was very smooth and I used some of the time to plan what I would be doing once I arrived.

  • Fort Point Channel

    July 30, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 30 °C

Next up I headed towards the centre of town to the Fort Point Channel with great views over to central Boston! This area is also home to the Boston Tea Party Museum, commemorating when the Americans hijacked a British shipment of tea and dumped it all into the river, which is what really kickstarted the war for independence.

Also close to here was of course a PwC!

  • Harvard University

    July 31, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 27 °C

First of all this morning I wandered into town to pick up some breakfast before jumping on the metro to Harvard University! The University is not in Boston itself but just across the river in the neighbouring town of Cambridge.

Alumni of the university include Barack Obama, JFK, Matt Damon, George Bush, Mark Zuckerberg, Al Gore and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

When I arrived it was hammering down with rain and this continued on and off for a while. Nevertheless I enjoyed wandering the red brick campus and was surprised to find a 'Lesley University' literally across the road.
