Climb Every Mountain

Another highlight - a drive deep into the Caucasus mountains. The first snow sprinkles arrived a few days ago and the autumn foliage is changing colour. So, shepherds on horses are beginning to bring their sheep and cattle down from the mountains to the lower fields for winter.

We drove over a high mountain pass before stopping in Gergeti village where we lunched in a villager’s home. Our hostess was making our meat dumplings as we arrived.

After lunch local villagers drove us in their personal jeeps up a steep secondary road to Gergeti’s Holy Trinity Church.

We were just 12-kms from Russia - the relationship with Georgia is fractious as in recent years Russia has invaded 20% of Georgian lands, displacing the local people. More than rosary prayers may be required to sort this.Read more
