  • So Many Ingredients

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 64 °F

After the lecture, we were given an opportunity to consult with a doctor there and purchase Chinese medicine, usually herbal remedies, for whatever ails us. I was very tempted to do this but then considered the idea of what would I do once my medicine was used up and I needed a refill. I wish that these medications were easier to get here in America. I wanted to give this a try but it’s just too hard to find here.Læs mere

  • My First Massage

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 64 °F

While I didn’t leave with a supply of Chinese medicine, I did get my first ever massage. It felt very rough and painful while it was being performed but, after the doctor finished, I was amazed by how wonderful my body felt. I was shocked by how good I felt! At first, only the women in our group were getting the massage but after I got one, at Kathy’s suggestion, most of the other men decided to get one too. It felt good to be a trendsetter! I just wish that someone took a picture of me getting my massage. It would have been a nice memory.Læs mere

  • On the Road Again

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 63 °F

Once again, we’re riding on the tour bus and I’m able to get a glimpse of everyday life in Beijing. Lisa said she’s taking us somewhere to do some shopping since everyone in the group has been asking for that. So far, we haven’t been able to do any souvenir shopping at all. I hope where she’s taking us has a good selection and quality goods.Læs mere

  • Where Are We?

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 63 °F

This is why I have no desire to ever drive in another country. Even if the signs are in characters I understand, I wouldn’t be able to understand the language, or the rules that exist there. I’m much more comfortable using the local mass transit or cabs and buses.Læs mere

  • Not My Idea of Shopping

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 63 °F

I’m very disappointed in the place that Lisa took us to do our shopping. It wasn’t a place for souvenirs at all. It looked more like a flea market to buy knock off goods. While this wasn’t the kind of shopping I had in mind at all, most of the people in our group were overjoyed to be there. I guess knock-off bags was the kind of shopping that they wanted to do. Kathy got herself a nice selfie stick and knew enough to bargain with the sellers to get herself a very good price. As for me, all I bought was a few pieces of candy.Læs mere

  • Views From a Bus

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 61 °F

The traffic in Beijing is pretty bad and we’re often driving so close to the other cars and buses. Since the public buses are at the same height as our tour bus, we’re able to get a good look inside of them. I wonder why the person standing near the door is so motionless with their head down? It looks like a scene straight out of the Walking Dead TV show!Læs mere

  • The Duck

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 57 °F

For our last dinner in Beijing, we were taken to a place that specializes in Peking Duck. I’m thinking that the other people in our tour group come from places that don’t have a big Asian population because while this seems like a very common food for us to find here, everyone else was acting like this was a rare and exotic delicacy.Læs mere

  • Duck Dinner

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 57 °F

I noticed that Lisa, the tour guide, never eats with us. I thought that this was a bit odd. She came to our table a few times to make sure everything was fine and that we were all happy but then she would leave again. Is it against the rules that she eats with us? As for me, I’d prefer her to stay and eat with us. I’m sure that she could tell us many stories about life in China or maybe she’s interested to here about what it’s like to live in America and Canada.Læs mere

  • Happy and Full

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 55 °F

Although I don’t really care for duck, this has been one of our best meals in China so far. I think that everyone in our tour group is getting more comfortable and friendly with each other because there was much more talking and we all seemed to be enjoying each other’s company. For the first time since we’ve been here, I feel full and had enough water to drink.Læs mere

  • Checking Out

    28. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 54 °F

We’re going to be leaving very early tomorrow morning so, to save time, everyone is doing the checking out process tonight. While Kathy was checking out, Lisa approached her and told Kathy that she needs to be given a tip. We had planned on giving her something tomorrow as we were leaving Beijing but it surprised us that she just asked us for something. It kind of left us with a bad impression of her. Sad..Læs mere

  • Ready to Leave

    29. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 50 °F

It’s so early in the morning but everyone made it down to the lobby on time. We’re ready to leave our hotel in Beijing and move on to our next stop. I really liked this hotel and I’m going to miss it. I hope that our next hotel is just as nice as this one.Læs mere

  • Traffic

    29. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 50 °F

We’re on our way to the Beijing Train Station to board a bullet train headed to Xi’an. Even at this early hour there’s so much traffic. I guess that the workday starts early in Beijing.

  • We’re Early

    29. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 50 °F

Despite all the traffic we had to deal with this morning, we got here early. I’m guessing that the driver has done this trip for so many tours already that he knows exactly how long it takes to get here. This is where we said goodbye to Lisa, our tour guide, and got ready to begin the next leg of our trip to China.Læs mere

  • All Aboard!

    29. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 50 °F

We’re on the train and ready to go to Xi’an. The train station was crowded but not as bad as we were led to believe. Lisa kept telling us to make sure we all stick together and not get separated. She was fretting so much about the huge crowds at the train station. I’m sure that it’s very crowded to her but we’re used to even bigger crowds in New York’s Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal.Læs mere

  • We’re Ready to Go

    29. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 50 °F

We’re still waiting for the train to get going. I’m thinking that we’ll be moving soon though. We’ve had such a good time in Beijing but I feel like there’s still so much here that we didn’t see yet. I’d love to come back again someday. Right now though, I’m ready to see Xi’an!Læs mere

  • Speeding to Xi’an

    29. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 57 °F

The bullet train is moving towards Xi'an at 288km per hour right now. That's about 179 miles per hour. Looking out the window though, it doesn't seem that fast. Maybe once we get out of the city areas the conductor will really open it up. I'd love to ride at the train's maximum speed!Læs mere

  • A Stop in Zhucun

    29. september 2018, Kina

We're making another stop. This time in Zhucun. This is the biggest city that we've seen yet. This is how I was expecting Beijing to look but it turned out to be very different. Beijing was nowhere near as built up as I was expecting. Much of the city looked very old fashioned but I think that's a big part of it's charm.Læs mere

  • A Short Walk

    29. september 2018, Kina ⋅ 75 °F

After sitting for a while, we decided to walk around a bit a see more of the train. I was hoping to find someone, or a vending machine, selling snacks or drinks but we didn’t see anything. I’ll just have to wait until we arrive in Xi’an, I guess.Læs mere
