Modular Design

These figures seem to be made in a modular design with interchangeable parts. That allows for very many warriors to be made quickly. Very clever!
A Big Project

It’s estimated that around 8,000 of these soldiers were made along with 130 chariots, and 670 horses. The entire project took around 40 years to finish. That’s amazing!
Formation

I’m wondering if these figures were found in formations like this or if they were just scattered about. I’m sure that, when they were new, they were set up in groups like this.
More Than Soldiers?

The placement of the arms, and lack of full armor, makes me think that not all of these figures are designed as warriors. I’m not sure what this one was supposed to be carrying but it doesn’t seemBaca selengkapnya
No Heads

The bodies of the soldiers all look pretty much the same but each face is unique. It looks as if the bodies were possibly made first and then the heads were put on later.
A World Wonder

In September 1987, the Terracotta Army was praised as the Eighth Wonder of the World by the former French President Jacques Chirac.
He said: "There were Seven Wonders in the world, and the discoveryBaca selengkapnya
Big and Heavy

It’s kind of hard to get a sense of scale but each of the terracotta warriors are life-size, with most about six feet tall. The sculptures weigh up to 600 pounds each.
Noble Steeds

All soldiers need a loyal horse to get around on and there are plenty of them here at the excavation site. I can easily imagine the warriors using these horses to charge off into battle.
The Dig

This is the largest and most impressive of the three vaults. It’s around the size of an airplane hangar. There are over 6,000 terracotta figures of soldiers and horses here but less than 2,000 areBaca selengkapnya
More to Find

The terracotta army is only part of a garrison in Qin Shi Huang's mausoleum, which covers nearly 56 square kilometers. Most of it still remains unearthed. Excavation and restoration of terracottaBaca selengkapnya
Work in Progress

There are so many areas that have fragments of parts that need to be studied and put together. I would find this sort of work fascinating!
Indiana Jones

You call him Doctor Jones, doll! My Indiana Jones Lego figure fit in perfectly here. I’ve since moved on from the Legos and now use full sized figures. I can think of so many other choices that IBaca selengkapnya
Ready to Go

We’re just about ready to leave the terracotta warriors excavation and I’m still so impressed by it. I could easily spend all day here but we’ve got to stay with our tour group. I’m sure thatBaca selengkapnya
In the Sun Again

After being inside the excavation site for so long, the sunshine outside was nearly blinding! It’s amazing how our bodies adapt to our surroundings so quickly!
Post Box

Believe it or not, this is an actual mailbox! I’ve never seen such a cute and colorful mailbox before and I really like this one. I didn’t even notice it at first. This is one of Kathy’s shots.
Horse Post Box

Here’s another look at the horse mailbox. I had thought that this set up as one of the Chinese New Year animals but 2018 is the year of the dog, not the horse. At least it’s a lucky red color!
The Excavation Site

We’ve only been outside the excavation site for a few minutes and I’m already missing it. I’m wondering if there was anything inside that I might have missed. I don’t know when I’ll be back,Baca selengkapnya
Another Museum

There’s another museum here that we’re about to go into. We’ve already seen so much here that I’m not sure what else this museum can show us. I’m ready for a look though!
Entering the Museum

I wish that I was able to read Chinese. I’d really like to know what these signs say. They look very decorative and artistic but I’m sure that they are trying to give me a lot of information also.
Chariots

This museum seems to hold more complete pieces that have been it back together after being excavated. It’s like putting together a very difficult puzzle with no idea what the final outcome might be.
Last of the Warriors

Even though we’ve been here for quite a while, I’m still fascinated by these figures. I’ve read about these soldiers for such a long time, and got to see small replicas at Walt Disney World butBaca selengkapnya
At the Exit

There’s more of these signs near the museum’s exit. The writing looks similar but I can’t make any of it out other than numbers. I’m guessing that the numbers are probably years. AlthoughBaca selengkapnya
Back Outside

I’m surprised that a site as historic and important as this isn’t more crowded. I suppose that the locals have seen it many times already and perhaps tourism in China is not as widespread as it isBaca selengkapnya
Ready to Go

We’re getting ready to leave the terracotta warriors excavation site and I’m feeling sad about that. I feel like I didn’t see everything yet and I’m wishing that we could stay a bit longer.Baca selengkapnya
Ready for Lunch

As we walked to the restaurant where we were intended to have lunch, everyone was chatting about the terracotta warriors. While everyone enjoyed it, I was surprised that none of them were as impressedBaca selengkapnya
