  • A Quick Nap

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

Waking up so early has caught up with Kathy so she’s having a short nap. There’s not too much else we can do on the plane and it’s better for us to arrive at our destination fully rested.

  • A Seat With a View

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Views like this is why I love to sit in the window seat. Yes, it can be inconvenient if I need to use the bathroom, need to get something from the overhead bin, or just want to stretch my legs but seeing sights like this make it all worth it.Read more

  • Clouds

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

It’s so amazing to be up here above the clouds, looking down on everything beneath us. Although I know that we’re moving very quickly, when I look out the window it looks as if we’re hardly moving.

  • Getting Close

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

It looks like we’re flying lower than we were before so I’m thinking that means that we’re getting close to New Orleans. I sure hope so! We haven’t been there in such a long time!

  • The Causeway

    May 2, 2022, Gulf of Mexico ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is the longest bridge in the United States and the longest in the world that runs continuously over water. The causeway consists of two parallel bridges crossing Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana. Without traffic, it takes nearly half an hour to drive across.Read more

  • It’s Not a Lake

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Lake Pontchartrain is the largest inland body of water in Louisiana at 630 square miles. It’s actually an estuary, not a lake, and it has connections to the Gulf of Mexico and various other rivers and bayous.Read more

  • Practically There

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

From up in the air, all of the cities we fly over look almost exactly the same. No airports are located inside the cities themselves and are placed on the outside of the city centers. I think what I’m seeing now is the outer suburbs of New Orleans,Read more

  • Land, Ho!

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

We’ve reached the end of the lake and will soon be flying over land again. I think that the shore I’m looking at is where New Orleans actually begins so we’re practically there,

  • A Quick Landing

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

It was a quick landing, made even quicker by filming it in the hyperlapse mode. I like this feature a lot but I’m going to see if there’s any options to change the speed of the video. It would be nice to be able to change speeds in the middle of a video. Hopefully something like that is possible.Read more

  • Waiting to Leave

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

I don’t understand why everyone jumps out of their seat before the plane even comes to a complete stop and stands impatiently in the aisle or their seating area. They are always left standing for quite some time because the plane has to get to the gate and then everyone in front of them has to go too. We played it smart this time and didn’t get up until there were people leaving who were just a couple of rows ahead of us. It’s much more relaxing and a lot less aggravating!Read more

  • Welcome to NOLA

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Walking through Louis Armstrong International Airport is our first look at New Orleans. It feels so good to be walking around after sitting on the plane for a while. Let’s find an Uber ride and head into the city!Read more

  • Our Uber

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

Our Uber taxi picked us up very quickly. It cost us $40 to ride from the airport to our hotel in the French Quarter. That’s about what we expected to pay so I guess that it’s a fair price. Our driver didn’t say a word to us for the entire ride, or even turn around to look at us. His less than friendly attitude didn’t earn him a tip. I don’t like a chatty cab driver but at least acknowledge us! We didn’t think that he was the safest driver either. I don’t know what the speed limit is in New Orleans but this guy was doing around 80 most of the trip and also weaving in and out of lanes. I’m glad that we made it to the hotel intact!Read more

  • Checking In

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

With the speed our driver was going, we made it to the hotel much faster than we expected. The check in process was very fast too. We were the only people in the lobby so it all went very quick. We’re so happy to finally be here!Read more

  • We’re Here!

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

We’re finally here in our hotel room! We’re on the 12th floor of the J.W. Marriott on Canal Street in the French Quarter. It looks comfortable and, more importantly, clean!

  • Our Room

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

This is going to be our home for the next few days and, so far, we very satisfied with the room that we have. It’s roomy and spacious and the bed is comfortable. I’m sure that we’ll be happy here. This is a panoramic shot, showing the entire room so be sure to check it out!Read more

  • Sax Man

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

It’s nice to see all these murals but all of them are focused on the theme of Jazz music. I think that I’d prefer each of the murals showing a different aspect of the New Orleans culture and lifestyle.Read more

  • Scenes of Nawlins’

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

As we were walking out of the hotel, ready to do some exploring, we saw a group of murals painted around the lobby. They were all from the same artist and depicted scenes from the Mardi Gras and Jazz culture in New Orleans.Read more

  • It’s Us

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

We’re here in the lobby of our hotel and taking a few photos before going out. There’s nobody else around so this is a great opportunity for some pictures.

  • Nawlins’ Jazz

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

Music, particularly Jazz, is very important in New Orleans so it’s no surprise that many of these murals are painted to depict scenes of music along with the Mardi Gras celebrations.

  • More Murals

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

This painting was probably my favorite one of the series because it shows a few different types of things. Jazz is represented, of course, but so is Mardi Gras and a bit of the architecture of New Orleans. I could be mistaken but I’m thinking that’s Louis Armstrong depicted in the center of the painting.Read more

  • One More

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

This is the last of the murals in the hotel’s lobby. All of them look great and really put us in a New Orleans state of mind. We’re ready to go outside and enjoy this iconic city!

  • The Corridor

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

This hallway leads out of our hotel and onto Canal Street, one of the main streets of New Orleans. There’s something about this hallway that seems to distort perspective and feels almost impossible to get a shot with everything aligned straight. I’m going to keep trying though. Hopefully I’ll get the right angle before we leave.Read more

  • Canal Street

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

It’s great to be back in New Orleans! It’s been almost ten years but everything looks, sounds, and even smells, exactly as I remember it! Nothing ever seems to change here and that’s just the way that I like it!Read more

  • Balconies

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

I went with a different sort of processing for this look at New Orleans architecture. These kind of balconies, a traditional style in New Orleans, have been around seemingly forever. So, I thought that the old photo look would be appropriate here.Read more
