  • Acme Oyster House

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

We decided to eat lunch at the Acme Oyster House. Strangely, this restaurant is where we had our last meal the first time we visited New Orleans and now, on our return visit, it’s the first place that we decide to eat. I hope that everything is as good as we remember.Read more

  • Boo Fries

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

Boo fries is the South’s answer to the Canadian poutine. It’s a generous serving of french fries covered with shredded cheddar cheese and roast beef gravy and shredded meat. I had this as an appetizer and I loved it! I really enjoy poutine but I’m thinking that this might be even better!Read more

  • Gumbo

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

While I enjoyed the Boo Fries, Kathy picked gumbo as her appetizer. Gumbo is a popular soup in Louisiana, in fact, it’s the official state cuisine. Gumbo consists primarily of a strongly-flavored stock, meat or shellfish, a thickener, and the Creole "holy trinity" ― celery, bell peppers, and onions.Read more

  • It’s Tasty!

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

After reading a bit about what gumbo is, and what the ingredients are, Kathy decided that she liked it. I didn’t taste it though. Gumbo sounds kind of spicy to me and, anyway, it has too many vegetables. I’m happy with my boo fries.Read more

  • A Look Around

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Here’s a panoramic shot, to get a look at the whole restaurant. Although I see lots of tourists here, there also seems to be a lot of locals. This place fills like a neighborhood hangout. I’m glad that we decided to come here.Read more

  • A Great Lunch

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

For my meal, I had the fish and chips and it was very tasty. The portions were so big that I couldn’t even finish it. I ate most of it but a bit of it had to be left behind. I would have liked to take it with me but I wouldn’t have any way to reheat the food later.Read more

  • Beignets!

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

After a great lunch, we took a walk over to Cafe du Monde to get some beignets for dessert. They were great, as always, but not quite as tasty as we remembered them being.

  • A Great Treat

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

We haven’t eaten at Cafe du Monde in nearly ten years so I’m not sure if their beignets have declined in quality or we have just built the taste up in our minds so much that no beignets could possibly live up to what we remember them being like.Read more

  • Still Very Good

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Despite these beignets not being quite the way we remembered them, they were still very good. We remembered them as being much more light and airy. I don’t remember so much powdered sugar on them either. It’s very messy and the sugar is getting everywhere.Read more

  • A Bag of Beignets

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Beignets were originally brought to Louisiana by the Acadians. These were fried fritters, sometimes filled with fruit. Today, the beignet is a square piece of dough, fried and covered with powdered sugar. At Cafe du Monde, they are served in portions of three.Read more

  • The Original

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

There are a total of eleven Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stands in the New Orleans Metropolitan area. They are located in the French Market, City Park New Orleans, Esplanade Mall, Riverwalk Mall, Lakeside Mall, Oakwood Mall, Mandeville, Covington and 4600 Veterans Boulevard. We’re here at the original and, in my opinion, the best. This is a panoramic shot so be sure to open it up and take a look at the whole place.Read more

  • No Mess

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Kathy’s eating her beignet much more carefully than I did. By keeping it in the bag as she ate, she didn’t end up covered in powdered sugar. It took me a while to clean myself off. I’ve learned to be more careful when I eat my next one.Read more

  • So Famous!

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Café du Monde is the world's most famous coffee shop and a New Orleans institution. Found at the end of the French Market and the corner of Jackson Square in New Orleans' French Quarter, Café du Monde has been serving up their crispy beignets and creamy cafés au lait since 1862.Read more

  • Hungry Boy

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

The powdered sugar doesn’t bother Groot at all. He just digs right in, never mind the mess, and enjoys the beignets. Maybe we can all learn a lesson from him.

  • Aunt Sally’s

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

I remember this shop from our last visit to New Orleans. It’s right next to Cafe du Monde and they sell praline treats that are really tasty. I don’t want to carry them around with me right now but I’m definitely going get some later!Read more

  • Walking in NOLA

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

The streets of New Orleans are so different from what we have back home in New York City. Things here seem so laid back and easygoing. It’s nice to get away from the hustle and bustle of NYC sometimes!Read more

  • The Wine Aisle?

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

On the way back to the hotel, we stopped by a CVS store to get some water to drink and were very surprised to see that the store had an entire aisle devoted to wines and beer. I’ve never seen a CVS selling alcohol of any kind but I guess that things are different down in the south.Read more

  • Jazz Gumbo

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

When we see this sign we know that we’re nearly back to our hotel. I remember this sign from our last visit and I’m glad that it’s still around. This is one of my favorite neon signs here in New Orleans.Read more

  • Returning to the Marriott

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

It feels so good to be back at our hotel. As soon as we opened the door the coolness of the air conditioning hits us. This feels so much nicer than the oppressive heat and humidity outside. This southern weather is so uncomfortable for me. I hope that I get used to it soon.Read more

  • The Spirit of NOLA

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

This painting was hanging on the wall of the Marriott’s hallway, very close to our room, and it seems to perfectly capture the spirit of New Orleans. It seems that many of the hotels we stay at have artwork that I find very striking. This is the first time that I’ve photographed it though. I think that I should start doing this more often.Read more

  • So Tired!

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Our getting up so early combined with all the excitement of today is catching up with us and we decided to relax in the room for a nap. We’re not expecting to sleep for very long, just enough to catch our breath.Read more

  • A Room With a View

    May 2, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 75 °F

We must have been much more tired than I thought because I just woke up now and it’s close to midnight. Obviously, it’s far to late to go out again tonight. I would have liked to see a bit of the French Quarter’s infamous night life but not at this hour. I contented myself with taking a few photos of the view out of our hotel room window and then went back to sleep. Good night, New Orleans!Read more

  • Good Morning, NOLA!

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 73 °F

Since we went to sleep so early last night, it stands to reason that we woke up very early today. We’re feeling so rested and full of energy now. Let’s have a great time today!

  • The Ruby Slipper

    May 3, 2022 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 79 °F

Since we got up so early, we had plenty of time to relax in bed while we planned out our day. Our first step was finding a good breakfast spot. The Ruby Slipper was just around the corner from our hotel and had fantastic reviews from everyone. Let’s give them a try!Read more
