A Quick Nap

Waking up so early has caught up with Kathy so she’s having a short nap. There’s not too much else we can do on the plane and it’s better for us to arrive at our destination fully rested.
A Seat With a View

Views like this is why I love to sit in the window seat. Yes, it can be inconvenient if I need to use the bathroom, need to get something from the overhead bin, or just want to stretch my legs butLue lisää
Clouds

It’s so amazing to be up here above the clouds, looking down on everything beneath us. Although I know that we’re moving very quickly, when I look out the window it looks as if we’re hardly moving.
Getting Close

It looks like we’re flying lower than we were before so I’m thinking that means that we’re getting close to New Orleans. I sure hope so! We haven’t been there in such a long time!
Lake Pontchartrain

Now I know that we’re getting close! We’ve just started to fly over Lake Pontchartrain, just north of the area where New Orleans is located.
The Causeway

The Lake Pontchartrain Causeway is the longest bridge in the United States and the longest in the world that runs continuously over water. The causeway consists of two parallel bridges crossing LakeLue lisää
It’s Not a Lake

Lake Pontchartrain is the largest inland body of water in Louisiana at 630 square miles. It’s actually an estuary, not a lake, and it has connections to the Gulf of Mexico and various other riversLue lisää
Practically There

From up in the air, all of the cities we fly over look almost exactly the same. No airports are located inside the cities themselves and are placed on the outside of the city centers. I think whatLue lisää
Land, Ho!

We’ve reached the end of the lake and will soon be flying over land again. I think that the shore I’m looking at is where New Orleans actually begins so we’re practically there,
A Quick Landing

It was a quick landing, made even quicker by filming it in the hyperlapse mode. I like this feature a lot but I’m going to see if there’s any options to change the speed of the video. It would beLue lisää
Waiting to Leave

I don’t understand why everyone jumps out of their seat before the plane even comes to a complete stop and stands impatiently in the aisle or their seating area. They are always left standing forLue lisää
Welcome to NOLA

Walking through Louis Armstrong International Airport is our first look at New Orleans. It feels so good to be walking around after sitting on the plane for a while. Let’s find an Uber ride and headLue lisää
Our Uber

Our Uber taxi picked us up very quickly. It cost us $40 to ride from the airport to our hotel in the French Quarter. That’s about what we expected to pay so I guess that it’s a fair price. OurLue lisää
Checking In

With the speed our driver was going, we made it to the hotel much faster than we expected. The check in process was very fast too. We were the only people in the lobby so it all went very quick.Lue lisää
We’re Here!

We’re finally here in our hotel room! We’re on the 12th floor of the J.W. Marriott on Canal Street in the French Quarter. It looks comfortable and, more importantly, clean!
Our Room

This is going to be our home for the next few days and, so far, we very satisfied with the room that we have. It’s roomy and spacious and the bed is comfortable. I’m sure that we’ll be happyLue lisää
Sax Man

It’s nice to see all these murals but all of them are focused on the theme of Jazz music. I think that I’d prefer each of the murals showing a different aspect of the New Orleans culture andLue lisää
Scenes of Nawlins’

It’s Us

We’re here in the lobby of our hotel and taking a few photos before going out. There’s nobody else around so this is a great opportunity for some pictures.
Nawlins’ Jazz

Music, particularly Jazz, is very important in New Orleans so it’s no surprise that many of these murals are painted to depict scenes of music along with the Mardi Gras celebrations.
More Murals

This painting was probably my favorite one of the series because it shows a few different types of things. Jazz is represented, of course, but so is Mardi Gras and a bit of the architecture of NewLue lisää
One More

This is the last of the murals in the hotel’s lobby. All of them look great and really put us in a New Orleans state of mind. We’re ready to go outside and enjoy this iconic city!
The Corridor

This hallway leads out of our hotel and onto Canal Street, one of the main streets of New Orleans. There’s something about this hallway that seems to distort perspective and feels almost impossibleLue lisää
Canal Street

It’s great to be back in New Orleans! It’s been almost ten years but everything looks, sounds, and even smells, exactly as I remember it! Nothing ever seems to change here and that’s just theLue lisää
Balconies
