We spent quite a bit of time at the CGC booth. This was a booth that you had to visit earlier in the day and make a reservation before they would even talk to you. This was very off-putting to me but, for some reason, Sam didn't seem to mind it. What this company does is to evaluate and grade the condition of your comic book and then return it to you sealed in a hard plastic shell, rending it unable to ever be touched or read again.
This service is quite expensive and Sam was debating with himself if he really wanted to do it. He was trying to ask the CGC representative about how this was going to work and what he should expect but the representative wasn't very forthcoming with any answers. In fact, he seemed to be annoyed that Sam had the audacity to dare question CGC about anything.Meer informatie

User Unfriendly

After much deliberation, Sam decided to go ahead with the CGC grading process. His next step was to input walk the books he wanted graded into their computer. This is a process that the CGC staff should have been doing. Their system was not user friendly at all and the representative he was dealing with made no effort to hide how annoyed he was whenever Sam made a mistake trying to input his books. With the amount of money he was paying them, a bit more patience and understanding should have been extended. If it was me, I would have just taken my books and left.Meer informatie

Davy Jones

Davy Jones appears in the second and third films in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Usually I see people dressing up as Captain Jack Sparrow but this is the first time I've seen Davy Jones. This guy did an excellent job on the costume. I'm very impressed!Meer informatie

The Neca booth had some great figures that were quite tempting to me but I was still holding out for a Mezco figure. As it turned out, I didn't get any Mezco figures at the convention since I knew where to get the ones I wanted online for less money than what they cost here. Looking back, I really should have picked up a few of the Neca figures.Meer informatie

This is a really nice Pinhead figure! It's so detailed but, looking at it closely, it seems to have very limited articulation. A figure like this looks great standing on a shelf but isn't very good for photography. Taking photos is, primarily, how I use my figures so, as much as I like this figure, I'm going to take a pass on it.Meer informatie

I think it's great to see couples dressing up and having fun together at Comic Con. It would be nice if Kathy tried coming to the convention with me, even if we didn't dress up. I ask her to come with me every year but, sadly, she just doesn't have any interest in this sort of thing. Sam's wife, Fran, didn't come either so I guess that were in the same boat.Meer informatie

Deadpool is a character I always see at Comic Con. He's very popular because he's so versatile. He can be funny, heroic, or dangerous; often all at the same time. I think that this Deadpool, and his puppet pal, are going for the funny Deadpool. He looks great but those contacts he's wearing don't look very comfortable.Meer informatie

This woman looked great dressed up as a Twi'lek stripper from the Star Wars universe. I'm seeing so much great cosplay today! I feel bad that Sam is missing it all since he's spending all day at just a few comic sellers going through their stock. I really wanted him to get the full convention experience but he doesn't seem interested in anything except comics. I just hope that he's having a good time.Meer informatie

These Funko Pop figures are all over the convention. I really don't understand their appeal but, for some reason, they are incredibly popular. This giant Thanos was seen at the official Funko booth. In order to buy anything here, you have to win a lottery giving you the right to shop there. That's crazy!Meer informatie

This is just one of the reasons that I don't collect the Funko Pop figures. The prices for some of them are absolutely ridiculous! Does this seller really expect to find anyone willing to spend $1400 on this Game of Thrones figure? I know that most of the figures will never reach this sort of value, but still, it's crazy that some of these these toys cost so much!Meer informatie

This section of the convention floor was set aside for people who wanted to play any of the many collectable card games. The most popular games being played appear to be Magic the Gathering, Pokemon and Yugioh. I never really got into these type of games but they do look interesting. I really love the figures made by Hot Toys. They are the top of the line as far as figures go. The only thing that holds me back from buying them are how expensive they are. Meeting Girls

As we were talking about if we should start heading home, Sam noticed these cosplay girls and asked for a picture of them. As I was getting ready to take my shot, Sam told them to take a picture with me, "for my wife". They laughed at this, and obliged, but I thought that it was a strange thing to say. Did he think that Kathy would be angry that I'm taking a photo with them? Maybe he thinks that I'm not allowed to be in this sort of a picture? I'm not sure what he was thinking. He seemed very smitten with the girl dressed up as Wonder Woman though. He had his eye on her quite a bit as we were leaving. Perhaps I should have gotten a photo of them together for his wife. Hahaha! The most interesting part of this encounter was seeing what Sam finds attractive after all these years.Meer informatie

Exposing the Underground

I guess that the Hudson Yards area is still under construction. With the street level half torn away, this area looks like a scene out of a movie.
