Impressions of Paris Les mer
  • Le Monde Crepe Maison

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ☀️ 46 °F

The most popular type of restaurants in this area aren't French restaurants but Greek Gyro places. Oddly, none of the gyro meat is pork, which is usually one of the main ingredients of a gyro. Instead, all of the meat, everywhere, is chicken. We're thinking that they don't serve pork because all of the people working in these restaurants are Muslims. I guess that would also explain why they all look Middle Eastern rather than Greek. I wonder why they all want to run Greek restaurants rather than serve food from their own culture. So strange!Les mer

  • Rue de la Huchette

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

This is representative of what the Saint Michel district looks like. We're walking down Rue de la Huchette, which seems to be the main street of this area. I'm really liking the Saint Michel area. There's lots of interesting looking shops and restaurants around here. I definitely want to get some shopping done here.Les mer

  • Crepes Save the Day!

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

It was around this time that I started feeling the effects of low blood sugar. I was getting all of the classic symptoms; unsteady legs, a tingling in my hands that was slowly working it's way up my arms, and, what I dread the most, a light headed feeling that causes me to feel disoriented and confused.
I'm thinking that this is happening to me because, after taking my medicine, I ate almost nothing for breakfast. I need to get something with sugar in me, fast! Kathy and I were looking around but didn't see anyplace that was selling candy or other kinds of sweets. Finally, we decided to try this crepes place. The Nutella should have enough sugar in it to make me feel better.

  • Yummy!

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

This is our first time having real French crepes and it definitely won't be the last! These things are fantastic! Kathy and I shared a crepe with banana and Nutella, the most common variety and our favorite. After around 15 minutes, I started feeling better. Not only was our crepe a great snack it also brought my blood sugar back up to a normal level. Crepes win again!Les mer

  • So Tasty!

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

This crepe is fabulous! I've always enjoyed crepes back home in the US, but this one seems to take this snack to a whole new level. I know that, after having a few of these, I'll never be able to eat a crepe in America without comparing it to what we're having in Paris.Les mer

  • Vertigo

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 46 °F

Feeling better after sharing a crepe, we're now ready to go out and see more of Paris. This is the steps going from the dining area back out onto the street. I don't know why, but the French seem to love these spiral staircases. Most of the stairs we've encountered have been made in this fashion. I don't know why steep, narrow and winding stairs are so popular here. To me, they seem kind of dangerous. I usually don't care for steps in general so something like these are a nightmare for me.Les mer

  • Along the Seine

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

We walked just a few minutes and, before we knew it, we were walking along the Seine with Notre Dame Cathedral just ahead of us. I was so eager to see Notre Dame! This was to be our first major tourist attraction that we're going to visit here in France. I'm hoping that Notre Dame is going to be as wonderful as I'd always imagined it to be.Les mer

  • Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

We made it to Notre Dame Cathedral! This is another of my bucket list places that I've always read about, seen in movies and pictures but never thought that I'd actually get to visit. Like Big Ben In London, it's much bigger and more inspiring than I expected it to be. I'm so happy that Kathy and I are able to travel and see such wonderful sites like this.Les mer

  • The Rose Window

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

The great rose windows of Notre Dame Cathedral are legendary and I couldn't wait to get inside and see it. Even from outside, where you can even see the stained glass, it looks wonderful!

  • Guardians of the Church

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

Most of the seven million people who visit the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris each year probably don't realize that the legendary gargoyles adorning this medieval masterpiece were not constructed until the nineteenth century.
I like the processing on this photo. The dark silhouettes of the gargoyles give Notre Dame a very eerie appearance.

  • The Tower

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

Here's a look at one of the two towers that make up Notre Dame Cathedral. I'm not sure why the towers both have flat tops instead of spires, like most churches and cathedrals do. I think the flattened roofs give Notre Dame an unfinished look.Les mer

  • Notre Dame Details

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

At first, I had thought that this woman was wearing a helmet but, after looking closely at the photo, I see that it's actually a snake wrapped around her head. There are so many interesting details to see on this cathedral. I'm sure that I'm missing most of them. I'd love to find out all the stories connected to the statuary.Les mer

  • Gargoyles

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

I'm fascinated by all the gargoyles outside of Notre Dame. I'd love to climb up to the top of Notre Dame and see them up close but, after seeing what it's like going up so many stairs in the metro, I think that it would be quite a challenge for me. I really wish that they had an elevator here! I guess it doesn't matter anyway because Kathy doesn't want to go up to the top and I wouldn't go there without her.Les mer

  • The Front Door

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

This is the entryway to Notre Dame Cathedral. Even the front door is so ornate and elaborate! We had to stand on a bit of a line before we went in plus pass through the obligatory security check point before we made it to the door. I'm really going to get inside Notre Dame Cathedral! I'm so excited! I really hope that this place lives up to my expectations. I'm sure it will! Just from seeing the outside, my expectations have already been surpassed!Les mer

  • Stained Glass

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

One of the big attractions in any cathedral or church is the stained glass windows. Notre Dame had some amazing windows. This is just a little tease as you first enter. As you walk through the cathedral, each window seems more beautiful than the last.Les mer

  • The Power of Prayer

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

I don't really go to church as often as I should, but when I do go I'll usually light a candle or two. As I understand it, when the candle is lit, it's in remembrance of a loved one who passed or when we're praying for someone who is sick. Either way, it acts as an anchor point for the person lighting it. It’s a comfort and gives a sense of unity with those around you. It doesn’t make God listen to you any better or faster though. You could also just as easily light the candle in your own home if you felt the need. It also doesn’t have to be in a church, just as you’re not limited to praying only in church.Les mer

  • Windows

    7. november 2017, Frankrike ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

I've always loved stained glass windows and the ones here in Notre Dame Cathedral are really something special. I've seen a small shop here in the cathedral as we were coming in. I'm going to check if they sell small replicas of these beautiful windows. If they do, I'm going to get one. I think that would be a great remembrance of our trip here. We'd be reminded of our time here every time we looked out our window.Les mer
