On the way back to the metro, we passed several shops that seemed to be selling the same sort of Paris souvenirs that we've been seeing all over the city except that they were much more expensive here. We're guessing that the prices have gone up because this is a more well-to-do neighborhood. We'll just do our shopping elsewhere. Czytaj więcej

Back Underground

In no time at all we were back inside the Paris Metro system. It felt like a much longer walk going to Angelina than coming back. I suppose that distances always seem longer when you don't know exactly where you're going. Czytaj więcej

The ticket kiosks to gain entry to the metro were very easy to use thanks to their touch screens being able to display several languages, one of them being English. I'm surprised that Paris doesn't have a rechargable card for their transit system like so many other cities do. I like collecting those cards and have built up quite a collection as we travel. The turnstiles for entry and exiting are typical for what I've seen for transit systems throughout the world, even down to having at least one of them not working. I'm surprised that there are no gates blocking the way through. I'm sure that, if these were in New York, lots of people would just walk through, refusing to pay the fare. Tracks Behind Glass

We've reached out stop, Charles de Gaulle - Étoile. I've never seen a metro station like this before, with glass doors keeping people away from the platform. It looks so different from what we're used to seeing. We're here to see the Arc de Triomphe and walk around on the Champs-Élysées, one of the most famous streets in Paris. Czytaj więcej

People are driving so quickly around this traffic circle and there doesn't seem to be any lanes for the cars to stay in. This area looks so dangerous!

Stuck on the Sidewalk

We see some people walking around under the Arc de Triomphe but we have no idea how they got there. We've been looking for a crosswalk or traffic lights but we haven't seen any. Confused Tourists

We've asked several people in this crowd but none of them seem to know how to get over to the Arc de Triomphe. Us and Someone Else

We asked someone there to take our picture in front of the Arc de Triomphe but I'm not completely happy with how it came out. I wish that they could have used a lower angle, to make the arch look more imposing. Better yet, they could have been closer to us so that we could be seen better. That person alongside us wouldn't move out of the frame. She just kept standing there doing all sorts of poses and didn't seem to care that other people around here were taking pictures. Arc de Triomphe

We found out later that there's an underground pathway that takes you to the Arc de Triomphe. This actually makes a lot of sense and we should have figured it out ourselves. I guess that we'll have to climb to the top of the arch on our next visit. I'm not sure when that will be but we definitely want to come back to see Paris again! Czytaj więcej

Let's Go Sightseeing!

This double decker tour bus was parked across the street from us. We sometimes ride the tour buses but decided to go exploring on our own for this trip. The tour buses can be convenient but, if you're in a city with a lot of traffic, it can actually hold you back. I still remember our experience with the tour buses when we visited London. Strolling on Champs-Élysées

Leaving the Arc de Triomphe behind, we now walking along the famous Champs-Élysées. This street seems very reminiscent of our Fifth Avenue back home in New York City. Newsstands

Even here, on Champs-Élysées, these ubiquitous newsstands are everywhere. I would think that, due to the more upscale nature of of this avenue, things like newsstands wouldn't be permitted but, yet, here they are. I've never seen this sort of thing on Fifth Avenue before. Anything for the Shot

When there was a break in the traffic, I ran out into the street to get this shot. Kathy thought that was too dangerous just for a photo but I really wanted to get a shot like this. Ladurée

At last we've reached Ladurée, the main shop that we wanted to visit on the Champs-Élysées. Ladurée is said to be the best quality macarons in Paris. If we're try some, we want the best!

The inside of Laduree is very different from what we expected. This shop is very small, narrow and dimly lit. It kind of feels like shopping in a dark hallway. Somehow, though, this bakery still manages to look very beautiful and classy. Czytaj więcej

Macarons are the main attraction at Ladurée and they have so many different ones to chose from. Some of the flavors didn't sound very good to me but most of them looked wonderful. It's too bad that they don't give out samples, or allow tasting, like many ice cream sellers do. Czytaj więcej

Everything Looks Great

Although everything in Ladurée looked so delicious, we decided to stick with the macarons since they are what Ladurée is the most well known for and getting them is the main reason that we came here.

The boxing and presentation of these little cookies is perfect! With so much pomp and circumstance, getting macarons at Laduree seems so ceremonial and formal. What a great experience!
