  • It's Danbo!

    8. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

It was a bit too crowded to take Groot out for pictures but Danbo is pocket sized so it's easy to get quick shots with him. Danbo has such a blank looking face but, for some reason, I think that he always looks quite expressive. He almost always works well in photos.Weiterlesen

  • Right Up My Alley

    8. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

After seeing Trevi Fountain, we decided to keep on wandering around to see what else we might find. It's kind of difficult to navigate around Rome because most of the streets are little alleys, like this one. They all look alike and there are no street signs that we can easily see. I suppose, if you're not a local, you might expect to get lost at least several times.Weiterlesen

  • Holiday Season Pooh

    8. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ 🌧 57 °F

I was so surprised to find a Disney Store in Rome! We decided to go in and look around. I was hoping to find a Roman Mickey and Minnie, dressed in a toga or as a centurion. We didn't see anything like that but we did see this Holiday Season Pooh Bear. Kathy sent this picture of it to Susan, so she could see it, and Susan immediately thought that we bought it for her. Of course, after that, we were obligated to get it for her. I just hope that I can fit it in our luggage when it's time to go home.Weiterlesen

  • Street Art

    8. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

I saw these tree pots painted to look like Lego people as we were walking around Rome. As a Lego fan, these caught my eye right away. I was hoping that this was where that elusive Lego Store was but it wasn't. Still, this was a great find. I'm going to watch for more street art like this.Weiterlesen

  • Gelato!

    8. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

Before going back to the hotel room, we stopped off to get some gelato. I was the only one who got some. Kathy tasted it but prefers ice cream. I'm very surprised. I love ice cream but I think that gelato is so much better. I tried the banana flavor and it was amazing. There's so many more flavors that I still want to try. I'll definitely be having more of this!Weiterlesen

  • Good Night, Rome!

    8. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ 🌧 54 °F

This is the view out of our hotel room window. It's not the best view that we've ever had but I've seen worse. The rain is still coming down and I'm hoping that it lets up a bit tomorrow. We did so much good stuff today, and had a lot of fun, but I'm thinking that it would have been even better without the rain. Good night, Rome! I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!Weiterlesen

  • Blame it on the Rain

    8. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ 🌧 55 °F

The rain still hasn't stopped. If anything, it's gotten much heavier. It's coming down so hard, in fact, that it woke me up. I really hope that it's not like this tomorrow morning. We've got a lot of plans for seeing the sights in Rome but it won't be as much fun in weather like this. I'm going back to bed and will just hope that this rain blows over.Weiterlesen

  • Breakfast with a View

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 54 °F

I just made it into the Hotel Mozart's free breakfast buffet. Since I was the last one to make it into the shower, I'm naturally the last one to make it to breakfast. I'm liking the view out the window and feel happy that it's not pouring rain, like it was last night. I'll eat quickly so that we can get out and do some sightseeing before the rain comes back.Weiterlesen

  • Breakfast with my Honey

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 54 °F

Bryan was just leaving as I got there, leaving Kathy and I able to enjoy breakfast together. The food wasn't great but I certainly enjoyed the company. All I had was the scrambled eggs on on toast with plenty of water to drink. There was bacon available, which I normally can't get enough of, but this bacon looked awful. I wouldn't touch it! It reminded me of the bacon that was served in China. The eggs seemed greasy but passable and the toasted bread was exactly as I expected.Weiterlesen

  • The Flower Stall

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

This little flower shop stood at the end of the block where our hotel was located. Not only is it a beautiful spot of color on the street, it also became our marker, letting us know what street to turn on to get back to our hotel. When we see this flower stand, we know that we're nearly home.Weiterlesen

  • SPQR

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 59 °F

This is a manhole cover that we passed as we were walking. It's strange to see it being square instead of round but I like that it's inscribed with SPQR.
SPQR, an abbreviation for Senātus Populusque Rōmānus, is an old abbreviated phrase referring to the government of the ancient Roman Republic. Loosely translated, it means "The Senate and People of Rome".Weiterlesen

  • Starting Our Climb

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

Since it's just down the street from our hotel, the Spanish Steps is an obvious first choice for sightseeing in Rome. I hope that I can make it to the top of these steps. I don't care for stairs but the view from the top must be amazing. I'm very eager to see the cathedral at the top of the steps, too. I'm ready to start climbing.Weiterlesen

  • Shutterbug

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

Bryan’s been using a GoPro camera to take pictures with and it seems like a great camera. It can do photos and video and I really like how tiny it is. It seems to be nearly indestructible and waterproof too. I’m going to start watching for sales on a GoPro. I’d really like to get one of these cameras. I can think of so many possibilities with a camera like this!Weiterlesen

  • Looking Back

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

Looking back, our progress looks a bit more impressive. I'm actually a bit surprised that this spot seems to attract such a crowd. What is it, really, other than a staircase? I had read that this area is normally filled with artists and musicians but I guess that all the rain is keeping them away. It's not raining at the moment but, according to the weather reports, it's supposed to start soon.Weiterlesen

  • He Made It!

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

I see many pictures of Groot on Instagram but none of them show him exploring Rome. He made it to the top of the Spanish Steps and can't wait to see what comes next. I'm very glad that I took Groot with me on this trip. I must admit, he's more fun, and easier to set up, than the Lego figures. I wish that I had taken Groot with me when we went to China. I'm sure that he would have loved it!Weiterlesen

  • Danbo

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

Danbo's really enjoying the view from the top of the Spanish Steps. I have a feeling that Groot and Danbo are going to be the toys that I use the most for photography. I'd like to use some of my Mezco figures but, with so much rain, I'm afraid to take them out. I'd hate it if anything happened to them. I think, for future trips, Danbo and Groot are going to be the only two figures that I bring with me. Both of them seem to have so many possibilities for good shots.Weiterlesen

  • Sallustiano Obelisk

    9. November 2019 in Italien ⋅ ⛅ 59 °F

At the top of the Spanish Steps you can find the Sallustiano Obelisk (Obelisco Sallustiano) standing before Trinity de Trinità dei Monti church. This is an 18th century Roman made monument constructed in style and manner of the ancient Egyptian obelisks.
Sallustiano Obelisk features Egyptian hieroglyphs and, I'm told, highly resembles the ancient Flaminio Obelisk, which is situated in the nearby Piazza del Popolo. It is neat monument to see even if only an imitation and it's worth taking a few minutes of your time once you've made your way up the Spanish Steps.
