  • KFC Go Cup

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

I must have spoken too soon because, once I got back into the main towns, the traffic started getting bad. I realized that I no longer had time to stop and sit down for a meal so I stopped at the KFC in Ossining to get one of those go cups. I never got one of those before but it was quite tasty. It came with popcorn chicken, a chicken tender and fries; all packed into a container that fits right into the car's cup holder, letting you eat on the go. This go cup is a great idea!Read more

  • The Walk

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

After parking the car in the lot, I started walking to Sleepy Hollow's Old Dutch Church to see the Legend of Sleepy Hollow show. The view as I was walking there was fantastic! I felt as if I was going back in time to the old days of Tarrytown.Read more

  • Ichabod and the Horseman

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

This elaborate sculpture of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman are close to the Old Dutch Church, where I was headed. I like this sculpture a lot but I've never yet gotten a photo of it that I'm really happy with. Hopefully next year...Read more

  • The Pumpkin King

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

Across the street from the Old Dutch Church was the entrance to Horseman's Hollow, an outdoor area to walk around in, filled with all sorts of scary things. These big scarecrows were left standing outside the ticket area, to give people a taste of what to expect inside.Read more

  • Outside of Horseman's Hollow

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

I'd love to experience Horseman's Hollow, and take pictures of everything there, but I don't really like the sort of haunted houses that have real people jumping out at me. As much as I want to visit, I think that I'll be giving Horseman's Hollow a wide berth.Read more

  • The Old Dutch Church

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 55 °F

This is the inside of the Old Dutch Church in Sleepy Hollow. It's just about time for the show to start. I'm glad that I got here early enough to get a good seat. I'm sitting on the aisle seat of the second row on the left side of the church, almost exactly where I was sitting the last time I saw this performance.Read more

  • Irving's Legend

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

Master storyteller Jonathan Kruk presents a dramatic performance of Washington Irving’s classic ghostly tale, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, featuring the Headless Horseman, Ichabod Crane, Brom Bones, and Katrina Van Tassel. Flavored with live spooky organ music by Jim Keyes, Kruk’s storytelling captivates all audiences.
This is, in fact, the same church and churchyard from The Legend, from which the Headless Horseman rises in search of his head. It’s just a few steps away from the bridge where Ichabod Crane met his fate!

  • At the Sign of the Bridge

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

This is the spot where Ichabod Crane supposedly crossed the bridge to escape from the Headless Horseman. It's right outside of the Old Dutch Church. Seeing this sign as I left the Irving's Legend performance made the whole story seem more possible and exciting.Read more

  • Strike Up the Band

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 54 °F

As I headed back to the car to drive over and see the Blaze I passed through the entrance to Horseman's Hollow again. Now, it was so crowded and everyone seemed to be having a great time. There was even a band playing music to keep everyone entertained. This looks like a lot of fun. Maybe I should try going here one day... Maybe..Read more

  • Welcome to the Blaze

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

There are some experiences every family should try once. Then there are annual events that, after you try them, you vow to do every year forevermore. That's how I feel about the Great Jack O' Lantern Blaze in Westchester County.
This is the main entrance to the Blaze, composed of a multitude of grinning pumpkins. It really sets the mood for what awaits you inside!

  • Going In

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

Even though I got here early, I had to wait until 8:30, the time listed on my ticket, to go in. There's lots of people here tonight and I guess that's the best way for rthe workers here to keep things running smoothly and orderly. I hope that this year's display is going to be even better than what I saw here last year!Read more

  • The Pumpkin Zee Bridge

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

One of the first displays that I saw was this Pumpkin Zee Bridge, a nod to the Tappan Zee Bridge, which is a often crossed bridge in the Hudson Valley area. This display was big and elaborate, even allowing people to cross over the center of the bridge and get a real good look at the pumpkins.Read more

  • The Sea Serpent

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

Here's a closer look at the sea serpent. The artistry of the pumpkin carvers is amazing! After getting a closer look, I think that this sea serpent could easily pass as a Chinese dragon.

  • The Cake

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

This is another display that has been around for a few years. Originally, it was set up as for the 10th anniversary of the Blaze but now it's just reused each year with no mention of any anniversary.

  • The Zodiac

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

This was something new. All of the zodiac signs were made out of pumpkins, mounted on these display boards, and then arranged in this clearing. I saw lots of people taking pictures of each other standing in front of, what I assume, their individual zodiac sign. As for me, I'm a Libra and Kathy is a Virgo.Read more

  • All Aboard!

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

This circus train had many cars, each with a different animal inside. This display was very long and, even using my widest lens, I couldn't get the entire train in one shot. Here's a piece of it though.Read more

  • The Carousel

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 52 °F

This carousel was a big hit with visitors and I had to wait a while before I could get a shot of it without and people standing near it. I think the carousel was popular because it's new this year. This was a hard shot to get, not only because of all the people around it, but because it was actually rotating, like a real carousel. I'm glad that I was able to get it though.Read more

  • The Corridor

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 50 °F

This display has been there every year I've gone to the Blaze but I always love seeing this and think that it's probably the best part of the Blaze attraction. It can't be shown in a photo but the curved ceiling of this hallway has a continuous light show projected on it. It looks fantastic!Read more

  • Moving On...

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 50 °F

The lightshow corridor was fantastic, as always, and I was very lucky to see it with so few people around but I'm ready to move on and see what else the Blaze has to offer this season.

  • Pegasus

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 50 °F

This is the sort of display that's usually seen at the other pumpkin display over in Westbury, the Rise of the Jack-o'-Lantern's. In fact, this is the only sort of display that they have in Westbury. They look good, but it gets very repetitive when seen over and over. The Rise simply cannot measure up to the Blaze yet, strangely, the Rise is more expensive to see.Read more

  • The Road Goes On, Ever On

    October 26, 2017 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 50 °F

This is what's on the other side of the lightshow corridor, a trail that looks like it goes on forever and a spooky looking cabin. Occasionally, you are able to hear galloping hoofprints and a sinister chuckle, as if the Headless Horseman is coming down the path. This is, probably, the most difficult shot to get at the Blaze. It's very, very dark here and tripods aren't permitted. That's too bad, because I could really use one here!Read more
