Our driver arrived exactly on time but, strangely, he just sat looking forward and never interacted with us at all. We said hello to him when we got in the car and greeted him a Happy Halloween but he never responded or even turned his head around. That was both weird and rude.Read more

A Quiet Ride

We’re nearly at the airport and our driver has yet to acknowledge us. This has gone beyond weird and, now, it’s just plain rude. This driver certainly isn’t going to be getting a tip from us.

Arrived at JFK

When our cab got to JFK airport, we weren’t even dropped off at the Singapore Airlines section. Our driver just pulled into the first open parking space he saw and stopped. We told him that we were flying on Singapore Airlines but he didn’t answer us or even turn around. We just left the car and walked the rest of the way. I don’t know what that guy’s problem was but we’re just glad to be done with him.Read more

It took some walking, but we made our way to the Singapore Airlines counter. There was a bit of a line, but that’s okay because we allowed extra time and got here early. I like how they did a bit of decorating for Halloween, with the spider webs all over the gates.Read more

Kathy might be feeling a bit chilly now but I think she’ll be taking off her sweatshirt and jacket very soon. Thailand and Singapore are both very hot and humid. I don’t do well in the heat so I’m hoping that I’ll be okay with the weather there.Read more

Self Check In

While we didn’t use them this time, I liked how the self check in kiosks were decorated for Halloween. Most of the Singapore Airlines employees were dressed up in costumes and had buckets full of candy to give out to passengers for trick or treat. It made the check in process much more festive and fun.Read more

Onward to TSA

Now that our bags have been checked in, and we have our boarding passes, we’re ready to head over to TSA for security screening. This is the part that I always dread the most while traveling.

As I expected, the lines here are very long and it seems like all the workers here are nasty and have surly attitudes. Why won’t they even try to make this process a bit more pleasant for travelers?

Long Lines

The lines at the TSA checkpoint were very long, as I had expected, but they were moving fairly quickly. I still didn’t like waiting here though. This is one of the biggest drawbacks of air travel. I suppose it’s necessary though so I’ve got no choice but to deal with it.Read more

While waiting on the TSA line, I saw this group of stewardesses going through the security area. I didn’t know that they were subjected to screening procedures also. Their uniforms look so different from other airlines. I’m thinking they are from one of the Middle Eastern airline companies.Read more

Photography isn’t allowed in the TSA area so this was the closest I could go and still get some pictures. Surprisingly, everything went very quickly and smoothly one it was our turn. I still had to take my shoes off, which I think is pointless. Well, at least we’re done with security for now.Read more

On the way to our gate, we passed the usual assortment of overpriced restaurants and shops. I usually ignore these places but this figure of the red M&M really caught my eye. The pilot costume is a nice, and appropriate, touch.Read more

We’re seated at the gate and waiting for our flight to board. I don’t know why, but it seems that no matter what flight we take, or what airline we fly, our gate is always the one that’s furthest away. Just once, I’d like to board from the first gate in the terminal.Read more

We’re finally able to board the plane but, unfortunately, we’re not seated together. We each have an aisle seat and I’m seated right behind Kathy. I would have liked us seated next to each other but neither of us wanted a middle seat and, for such a long flight, an aisle seat is better for both of us.Read more

The stewardess on our flight is dressed in what looks like the traditional clothing of Singapore. I really like small touches like this because it really gives me the sense of Singapore and makes me more eager to get there.Read more

Why does the flight crew get seatbelts with shoulder straps while the passengers only get a waist belt? It doesn’t look very comfortable but, still, they are getting a lot more protection than the rest of us.Read more

Taking Off

Being seated in the aisle seat in the middle section of the plane, this is the best shot I could get of our taking off. I had to aim the camera at the window seat closest to me and zoom in. The people seated at that window seat weren’t even looking out of the window. They were just sitting back in their seat with their eyes closed. Why bother taking a window seat if you’re not going to take advantage of it? Well, at least it gave me a clear view out of their window.Read more
