  • Our Guide is Gone!

    At this point, our guide is no longer with our ride cart. She was driving our ride vehicle so it's important that we get her back. After the smoke clears from all the shooting, we see another woman up on the balcony. She looks like one of the gangsters but she's a real person, not an animatronic figure.Read more

    The next scene that our cars enter is an old western town. Here, we can see Clint Eastwood on their left, and John Wayne (who warns guests about the dangers ahead) on their right.

  • Danger Ahead

    Ignoring John Wayne’s warning about there being danger ahead, Mugsi decides that she is going to relieve the guests of their valuables. Just as she starts the process however, the voice of the town’s sheriff can be heard telling the townsfolk that Mugsi is “the bank robber”. As gunfire begins from either side of the vehicle, Mugsy tells guests that she is getting out of there and we are free to proceed into the next room. Read more

  • Alien

    As warning sirens go off, we're informed that the spaceship we are on will detonate in 10 minutes. At this point the alien (from Alien) can be seen overhead, as it begins to try an attack the ship. After the first attack, the alien attacks again from the top, and then from the side. Mugsi decides that she has finally had enough, and we're free to leave the Alien scene.Read more

  • Indiana Jones

    The next room that guests enter holds the Indiana Jones scene. As the movie’s theme song plays, Indiana and his assistant are shown carrying the Ark of the Covenant.

  • Don't Take the Jewel

    As the vehicle continues forward, we pass by hieroglyphics on the walls. On the right, a set of stairs leads to a glowing red jewel. The ride announcer then informs guests that they are in an ancient burial chamber, where the priceless jewel is held. Mugsi cannot believe what she sees, and she goes to get the stone, telling guests to stay put. After she exits the vehicle, the narrator warns her:
    "I've seen enough movies to know that you really shouldn't even think about trying to steal that jewel."

  • Leave the Stone Alone

    Just as Mugsi is about to reach the jewel, the Temple Guardian puts his hand up, and tells her that if she disturbs the treasure of the god’s she will die. Mugsie is not discouraged however, and she attempts to grab the jewel anyway. After touching the stone Mugsi goes up in smoke, and we learn that the temple guardian was actually our tour guide. Leaving Mugsi's skeleton behind, the tour guide returns to the ride vehicle. After the return of the tour guide the narrator exclaims:
    "A twist ending! That just goes to show you that anything can happen in the movies. Now let’s get on with the show."

  • Crime Doesn't Pay

    After touching the stone Mugsi goes up in smoke, and we learn that the temple guardian was actually our tour guide. Leaving Mugsi's skeleton behind, the tour guide returns to the ride vehicle. After the return of the tour guide the narrator exclaims:

  • The Horror...

    Following the return of the tour guide, we enter a dark area filled with skeletons. Here, we're informed by our guide that horror has always been a part of movies. In fact, one of the first films created was film which featured a dancing skeleton. The film was made in 1897 by the Lumière brothers.Read more

  • It's the Witch!

    Following this introduction, the Wicked Witch of the West appears in a cloud of smoke and asks the tour guide if she killed her (the Witch’s) sister. When the guide replies no, the Witch warns that she is going "to get you, and your little dog too". Following the witch's departure, the tour guide wonders aloud how they will ever get home. On cue a munchkin appears exclaiming "Follow the yellow brick road". As the ride begins to move again, the tour guide tells everyone to sing along.Read more

  • The Finale

    Following the Wizard of Oz scene the trams stop moving in front of a large movie screen. Here we see film clips from so many movies that it's hard to keep track of them all. I always try naming them all but the scenes pass by too quickly. It's fun to try though. This is a really great way to end this attraction.Read more

  • That's a Wrap!

  • One Last Look

    The writing of this trip report is long after I was actually in Walt Disney World. I'm not even sure that the Finding Penguins app existed in 2013. If it did, I didn't know about it. Anyway, at the time of this writing, the Great Movie Ride has been dismantled and closed down. This makes me, and lots of other fans, very sad. I didn't know it at the time, but this was my last ride on this wonderful attraction. Had I known, I would have rode it several more times today.Read more

  • The Chinese Theatre

    The park's Chinese Theatre is a full-scale replica of the original building in Hollywood; Imagineers even used the original building's 1927 blueprints in the construction of the park's theatre. At the time the attraction opened, the actual theater's name was "Grauman's Chinese Theatre" and later "Mann's Chinese Theatre", however, the park's proper name for this version of the building is simply "The Chinese Theater". Read more

  • Balloons

    I love to see big colorful collections of balloons like this. I think they always looks so happy and festive! Oddly enough, even though I love to look at the balloons, I can't remember ever buying one, except when our kids were very young. I feel they are nicer to just look at and admire then having to walk around the parks all day holding on to them.Read more
