    Scooter (black &) blues

    March 4 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 90 °F

About four days after we rented the scooter, we went out on a little outing to go buy some veggies at the market. On the return trip, a beautiful sunny day, we rounded a corner, hit a patch of sand on the road, and the next thing you know, we were on the ground. Ouch! It was a popular corner for crashing, apparently. A few locals came out to assist us, providing medical supplies and treatment. They offered to drive our scooter home for us, but it was unnecessary. The local people were incredibly generous.
We were lucky not to be hurt worse, and it's taking a long time to heal. The worst part is the PTSD. It was very difficult riding it to the store a couple more times and returning it to Chaing Mai. Anna has not recovered.

  • Sunday Walking Street

    February 22 in Thailand ⋅ ⛅ 86 °F

Every Sunday night, one of the streets in Old Town Cheng Mai is converted to a night market. Cars are blocked off and the street turns into a major market. Old town chiang mai was a walled city with a moat around it. There are a limited number of "gates" or entrances into the old city. The main part of the market starts at one of the gates and is one kilometer long. But there are offshoots on both sides along the way. It's full of handicrafts and other local artisans works amongst other things. And of course lots of food stalls. We had to try the coconut ice cream in musk melon. It was good but prettier than it tasted.
Elephants are very important to the Chiang mai area and show up in many places, and in different ways.

  • Life on the farm

    February 19 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

I was a little concerned when we first arrived and found out all the many tasks that were involved in taking care of the animals at this housesit.
But there turned out to be many positives too.Including all the wildlife that was seen in and around the area. We saw many beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Seeing the sunrises was thanks to the early feeding of the horses. There was an incredible number of species of birds. Gecko's galore, including the unique sounding tokay geeko, which lived in the house and occasionally made his call known to us. Even though it's very rare to see, we were able to see two snakes. Including what google and I both believe to be a spitting cobra. The farm ducks increased in numbers. There were three little ducklings at one time, but only two by the time we left. We were witness to multiple violent duck fights. I never realized just how mean ducks can be.
While I walked some of the horses around the hillsides and through the beautiful bamboo forest, Anna got to get her horse riding fix in, or at least part of it.
We witnessed a lunar eclipse. I performed CPR unsuccessfully on a neighbor. And not related, but we got to go to a traditional Thai funeral.
We made friends with the locals.
Despite the many challenges that we were faced with and the fact that we were unable to do a lot of the sightseeing we had planned, life on the farm is pretty good.

  • Mae Rim (Chiang Mai) sit

    February 19 in Thailand ⋅ ☀️ 70 °F

In a moment of weakness, we agreed to do a sit with 7 horses, a dog, and some geese and ducks. The weakness came with the fact that it was located near Chiang Mai Thailand.
Most of the duties are pretty chill. The only challenging part is the horses are associated with a riding school, so the duties change every day depending on how many students they have coming in.Read more

  • Manila airport

    February 17 on the Philippines ⋅ 🌙 79 °F

Nothing special to report here other than there was a line at the lounges. So we went to one lounge and then another lounge. Which we got in, but then we ended up going back to the first lounge and wish we'd stayed with the second one.
It's all part of the adventure.
