    Home.
There is just too much packing to be getting on with.
It’s not like throwing it all in the Motorhome and going, I have to think about what to take. Not used to this at all.

  • Holiday Express Heathrow

    14 juin 2023, Angleterre ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Nice uneventful drive from home to the hotel but not quite as good upon arriving here..
Room was not available when we arrived and that was eight o’clock in the evening. Two free beers sorted that out.
Then our electronic door key would not work. Four trips to the reception convinced them I was telling the truth.
I now know that the locks have batteries in them 🤷🏼‍♂️

    15 juin 2023, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Ok so after a long flight we have arrived in Toronto and made our way to the hotel. Tired and needing a freshen up so it came as a bit of a surprise to discover that we had no reservation. Hotel staff went into help mode and soon discovered that our reservation was for 2022 and not this year 2023. It seems we have arrived a year late (this is going to take some sorting out). Two more beers required, this time they came in a iced glass.En savoir plus

  • Hop on Hop off

    16 juin 2023, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

After we managed to get a room for the night we both thought that a bit of Site Seeing was called for so we headed for the Hop on Hop off sight seeing bus with a plan to hop off at the CN tower. Grabbed a few photos while winding our way through the busy streets of Toronto and listening to the informative guide.En savoir plus

Hopped off the bus and straight up the tower.
Fabulous views of the city. Spotted far below us what appeared to be a train carriage so that needed investigating and sure enough there is a train museum at the base of the tower which turned out to be well worth a look.En savoir plus

  • Niagra Falls

    17 juin 2023, Canada ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

How many different superlatives can you use for the attraction Niagara Falls?
Fantastic, Incredible or just Wow 😮 they all fit and of course wet (if you happen to be standing at the outer edge of the boat).
We had the luxury of bright sunshine to dry us out quickly but as our guide pointed out “ you should have brought some dry socks”.

  • Banff

    19 juin 2023, Canada ⋅ 🌧 1 °C

We have now arrived at the Canalta Lodge in Banff without incident so the beer is out the window and let’s celebrate with 🍸.
Banff is expensive, even the hotel literature tells you it’s going to be! But two Eddie burgers and two of his trash can cocktails totalled over hundred dollars. 😮 just to much money Eddie. Not going to do that again.
The weather at this time is wet and cold but with the town being the highest in Canada and surrounded by mountains you have to expect changeable climats.
One local told us they call this “Juneuary”.

    20 juin 2023, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

It’s still very cold here at this time but the tour guide tried hard to convince us this was the best conditions for viewing those strange Green colours of the water at the second most photographed 📸 tourist site in Canada. Leaving Lake Louise behind we then headed for Moraine lake where I personally hoped for sunshine but nope it was raining as well as cold. I think I can feel more beer 🍺 is needed.
By the way I was not the only person on the trip that thought Moraine was better viewing than Louise.

  • The Rocky Mountaineer Day 1

    21 juin 2023, Canada ⋅ ☁️ 1 °C

Here we go then! Gold leaf service to Vancouver.
This is a two day trip through the Rockies with an over night stay in Kamloops.
Service is superb and the seating in the Gold leaf glass domed carriages is what travelling dreams are made of.
Will be taking lots of photos as we attempt to portray our surroundings. We have spotted that the dramatic scenery of the national parks fades away in the afternoons as we approach the towns and industrial areas.

    22 juin 2023, Canada ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

The train got us safely to our destination in Vancouver where we will be spending the next three nights giving us time to look around.
There is a lot to see here so I think we will go for day and night separately.
Wow 😮 this place is very much come and explore me. Bars, Restaurants, Ships, Seaplanes and that’s only the cruise ship terminal. Add to that the different areas like China Town, Granville Island with the street performers and Gas town there is a lot to be taken in. Even a Steam clock.
Oh 😟 did I mention the Totem Poles?

“Phew I nearly forgot the Totem Poles.”
A pleasant wander along the footpaths in and around Stanley Park seems to lead to the Totem Poles and the compulsory gift shop plus cafeteria. Take away coffee and a short rest on a park bench was just what we needed before heading back towards town.En savoir plus

  • Sitka

27 juin 2023, Coastal Waters Of Southeast Alaska And British Columbia ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Sitka in Alaska. Sounds great don’t you think?
Mainly a trip to view the wildlife including a Bear sanctuary and a Raptor sanctuary as well. Seals, otters and a humpback whale thrown in for good measure. This one proved to be a little camera shy but never mind as there will be other times to try and photograph one.
As an afterthought I should point out that we actually saw whales swimming alongside the ship.

    28 juin 2023, États Unis ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

As we head towards Juneau our ship is going to move in as close to the Glacier as the crew can take it so that we are able to view parts of it crashing into the sea apparently known as “Calving”.

  • Juneau

    29 juin 2023, États Unis ⋅ 🌧 10 °C

What else is there to say?
Went on a trip specifically to see whales and was not disappointed.
Abbey was our guide and seemed to be more excited than anyone else in the boat.
Along with a feeding Humpback we also spotted Orcas in the distance.
Back on shore we wandered around Juneau (which is not very big) and were surprised
to discover an unprecedented amount of Diamond stores, all family owned of course!

Our floating hotel the Celebrity Eclipse has now docked in Vancouver so with this being our last day in Canada and as our flight is not until early evening we are are going on yet another trip, this time to the Sea to Sky Gondola. On the way is a photo stop at Shannon falls and then it’s off to the Gondola where I think I have just had the best ice cream I have ever tasted.
I am guessing that when we make the airport more beer will be required.

Could not finish the trip without mentioning the coffee shop chain “Tim Hortons”.
One of the first things our talkative taxi driver pointed out to us on our ride from the airport to downtown Toronto was the above. He gave us a quick history lesson on Tim and the rise and rise of his coffee outlets across Canada. He was correct as they appear to be on most street corners wherever you go.
He also complained a lot about the traffic!
