    Step one....

    August 1, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Everyone rallied and shot out of the house on time. Zac drove us to the airport. I carefully explained to the dogs how long we'd be gone.

  • All day in Denver.

    Aug 1–2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 37 °C

My schedule goofed up on the second leg of our journey. Our 2 hour Denver layover is actually 6 hours. We got to watch some of the horse jumping Olympics. Ate some BBQ and are generally excelling at being a family holding up under minor inconveniences. We've been here so long we thought about buying a Denver T shirt.

And 6 gate changes later and a delay... maybe? Maybe?

Meanwhile just got word.that my cousins just returning from an Alaska cruise... some of them came home with Covid. Good times. We are. ... were? Going to spend the day with them tomorrow. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Right now, still enjoying the Denver Airport, but a bit less. Very crowded down here in the cheap seats.
7 hours later, finally aboard the EXACT same plane we come in on. Flo the Flamingo.

  • Seattle and waiting again

    August 1, 2024 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

Playing shuttle roulette. So far out bus hasn't come. It's been about and hour. People are really friendly and helpful as we waaaaaaaiiiiit.
At 10pm the bus finally came, and there was so much luggage small bags had to go in laps. Uber eats/burger King at the Hotel and time to finally zonk out.Read more

  • Public Market

    August 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

We found the Space Needle. And Waldo. Then watched them throw fish at the Public Market. Richard was awesome in all respects.

  • Supernatural tour

    August 2, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Mehan had a google map of filming sites and discovered our breakfast spot was next door to one! We met up with a tour guide that evening in Gastown that was connected to the Vancouver film industry and showed us a lot of locations and stories around Supernatual. He also encouraged Megan to come back and work in film with her art.Read more

  • Good morning, Canada

    August 3, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Beautiful warm and clear day! Lovely little apartment that Megan declared is just perfect for her plus a cat. We got our rental car delivered by a sweet Chinese man who pulled a scooter out of the trunk and declared he lived about 30km away! And they said he was riding it to the sky tram. Dennis is sleeping in, Megan is occupying the bathroom and we are taking full advantage of the Kureg coffee machine. She and I are going to head over to the Capilano suspension bridge and see if we can get a thrill.Read more

  • Zodiac and Ketchikan

    August 6, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Morning fog shrouded the town as we arrived early, but it turned warm. The town had mostly jewelry shops but I found one that seemed very Alaskan with animal fur rugs. Megan and I caught a shuttle to ride a zodiac to the sea island location on seas so calm it was like a lake. The day was warm and pretty.Read more

  • TRACY Arm Fjord

    August 6, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 16 °C

7 hour boat ride: we saw whales, icebergs, seals and a glacier that calved while we were there. And scenery that was truly spectacular under rare sunny skies-- or so we are told. The day was hot but down by the ice, it was chilly. I stood outside nearly the whole time. I didn't want to miss a thing. Someone handed Megan a piece of ice. A kind of joke, like the opposite of "hot potato" because you have to find someone else gullible enough to take it. Meanwhile it is cold and drips all over you. Later they made iceberg margaritas.Read more

  • Jeanu kinda sucks.

    Aug 7–16, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Nothing good to say about Jeaunau. It's even hard to spell. They had a flood the day before from a Glacier lake dam that gave way and ruined a lot of homes. The dock area was just a strip mall of jewelry stores and trinket shops that had all the same merchandise. That said, our 7 hour excursion from here to Tracy Arm Fjord would've been worth the whole trip.Read more

  • Train to Dead Horse

    August 8, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Not to be confused with White Horse. We rode from sea level to the pass, and saw the grewling trail in the glacier morrain that the Klondike Stampede made when people had to do the 20 mile vertical trail THIRTY times over and over to carry the required 2000 pounds of supplies per person. When they arrived in the Klondike, there was no gold to be found for most of them.Read more

  • SKAGAWAY IS THE BEST

    August 8, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

This is what we had hoped the other towns were like. Pretty town. Lots of historic stuff, free random museums and artsy-crafty shops above tourist-grade. We watched an amazing film about the Klondike gold rush. Getting ready to take a vintage train up the White trail line.Read more

  • Glacier Bay and Otters

August 9, 2024, Coastal Waters Of Southeast Alaska And British Columbia ⋅ 🌫 12 °C

Saw rafts of otters floating on icebergs as we went through Glacier Bay. Mountain goats on Gloomy Rock. Lofts of lonely rifts where glaciers used to be, and about three big beautiful glaciers that still reached the sea and made their own thunder. Like magic, as soon as we began sailing away a thick fog came in. We are now sitting inside in the warm, sipping coffee and feeling content.Read more

  • College Fjord

    August 10, 2024, Gulf of Alaska ⋅ 🌧 7 °C

Cloudy, foggy, rain and cold. In other words, normal weather finally caught up with us. We nevertheless cruised by some massive glaciers that sounded like droning airplane engines, gun shots and thunder! We were 6 miles out from them, and the ice from the water up is around 300 feet tall. We went out on decks for a while, but wind and rain drove us back in where we took photos from inside.Read more

  • And... Northern Lights from the plane

    August 12, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

While on the ship under clear skies we went out at sundown at 10pm hoping to see northern lights. After midnight the twilight was still lighting the skies so we gave up, too sleepy! And then, Megan spotted a green glow from the plane with dows on our way home. Later the skies were lit all along the horizon with a spectacular lightening storm!Read more
