    TinTintern

    January 26 in Wales ⋅ ☁️ 5 °C

Got a few day trips planned this week, first stop Tintern. Tintern's main attraction is the Abbey ruin which we have visited before , so went on a different walk today. We found St Mary's church, a ruined church which had a fire in the 1970s and is completely abandoned now. It was fascinating seeing how nature has completely taken over the ruin with ivy spreading all over the place.
It was lovely to see snowdrops that had popped up on the graves, I loved that a dilapidated place still has flowers growing.

We ambled along the Wye towards the Old Station, and met a friendly dog and chickens on the way.
The old Station is an attraction in the summer months with a mini railway, it's closed for the winter but we could still have a look around. It was really cool to see the old Station buildings which were like a time warp to the 1950s when it closed.

We then walked back through the town and stopped in Stella's bookshop, a shop which specialises in children's literature and had some really cool vintage books. After a bit of nostalgia we headed back.
Now to visit family before the next stop on our road trip!

  • Mottisfont

    January 29 in England ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

Today we visited Mottisfont, a national trust house and gardens near Winchester. We came at the right time of the year to enjoy the snowdrop display, also saw some crocuses and daffodils, meaning Spring is on the way!
We had a great day seeing the house and gardens, also spotted quite a few birds including the swans on the river and some tame robins who wanted a photoshoot!
We then headed onto Winchester and checked into our hotel. We walked down to City Mill, another national trust place, which is the oldest mill in the UK. We had a great afternoon and coffee there, followed by a walk along the river. We stumbled across Wolsely castle ruins and explored there.
Later on we had a mooch around the city streets and had dinner and drinks! Ended up in a couple of student bars which meant cheap drinks!

  • Let's go to the Winchester

    January 30 in England ⋅ ⛅ 8 °C

Tourist day in Winchester today, ambling around the side streets, popping into coffee shops and independent shops. Very much enjoyed the oldest bookshop in the UK (they think!). Pottered around the market, charity shops and contemplated each and every cottage to decided which one I wanted to live in.
Had a walk along the river and to a nature reserve, before heading off to our next hotel for swim and sauna time 🏊‍♂️☺️

  • Tomato and Basildon Park

    January 31 in England ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

Last stop on our road trip, Basildon Park!
Enjoyed a stay at a hotel which had a pool, sauna and steam room, so enjoyed a chill evening last night and morning swim this morning.
We headed to Basildon Park, another national trust property. We visited many years ago so it was great to visit again. The house has been used for many tv programmes and films including pride and prejudice and Bridgerton. I really love the room which houses a huge shell collection, so pretty.
We had a very muddy walk along the grounds before a lunch stop. We then headed to see my friend Harriet and meet her new baby, before heading home.
