TravelerRe: tracking apps, I use GAIA GPS; While connected to power and internet connection I download the map for the next hike or climb. Once it is in the phone memory cell connections are not required. Putting the cell phone in "airplane mode" during the hike saves the battery. With "location" left turned on the map can be accessed any time and the arrow marker (like the blue dot in Google maps) shows up on the map at your current location. If you remember to "start" at the beginning and "finish" at the end it will accurately log your time, distance, speed, elevation gain and loss for that segment.
TravelerI just logged on and confirmed that Camino De Santiago is fully mapped in GAIA.
TravelerThanks, I will check it out while I've got WiFi at the hotel
