• Dolomites Day 2

    September 15 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Day 2 the legs were pretty sore, so after a cappuccino and bakery breakfast we made our way to a much more chilled hike. This was 5km around Lago Di Braies, which has incredible blue, clear water. Framed by wooden alpine forests and towering mountains, this was incredible viewing.

Given it was accessible without a kilometre of incline over loose scree, it was a little more crowded, but not enough to detract from a really relaxing hike around the lake. Teddy once again was in his element, getting a smile from everyone he could. The legs were very thankful of this choice.

For dinner we ventured into town and ate at Dolo’meats restaurant. It was very favourable we were on baby time, as just after we got our table a line appeared out the door. Mike was stoked with the schnitzel on the menu, a benefit of the very northern Italian location, and the rest of the pastas were stunning. I ventured for the risotto of the day which was nettle. Wasn’t something I’d cook at home, but it was nice and the waiter said that and the nettle soup were very traditional. The wine without saying was lovely, a light valpolicella (or something like that) and a slightly heavier barbera. Unlike Australia there seems to be a thousand wine varieties here, which makes for great exploring.
