• Day 3: Fushimi Inari Shrine

    April 14, 2017 in Japan ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Spent the day in Kyoto! The first tourist-y spot we've visited - a well known shrine with thousands of the torii gates lining the trails up their mountain. This particular shrine houses Gods that protect the agriculture and farming in Japan. Families and business have these gates put up on the hill to wish for good fortune or if they've had good fortunes, as a thank you.

We only went up about a 5th of the trail, but I think there were already over a thousand of them. Can't even imagine how many more there are up the rest of the trail. Really peaceful and beautiful greenery surrounding the grounds.

We also had a private tour guide for the day who was amazing - knew a lot of interesting and funny facts of the shrines and villages back when emperors lived in the area.
