Beach day in Monterosso

Today was a wonderful lazy day on the beach, an early dinner (I think they would call this lunch in Italy), and some of us climbed to the Capuchin Convent of Monterosso, described as a “soul stirring chapter of Cinque Terre’s history perched dramatically on the San Cristoforo hill overlooking the sea like a guardian of serenity.” The convent was built in 1618 and took on other purposes over the centuries, but restored for the 2000 Jubilee and reopened in 2006, and is home today again tot he Capuchin Friars who live there in quiet devotion. We saw no sign of life when we were there, aside from some beautiful song echoing from somewhere… we weren’t sure if it was live or a recording… beautiful nonetheless.
