    Perth to Lake Hart

    April 20, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

On a trip to one of our favourite places, Queensland. Heading up the middle and left at 3 ways. First night out….Lake Baandee near Kellerberrin, great to be back out by a campfire. Dodged the rain crossing the Nullabor, then relaxed by more campfires at Pildappa Rock. The sunset at Lake Hart was still as brilliantl as ever.Read more

  • Coober Pedy SA

    May 13, 2023 in Australia

Another of our favourite places….Coober Pedy. No organised tours this time, did our own self planned tour and saw lots of things previously unseen. Mining happening right on the edge of town, piles of dirt as far as the eye can see and some amazing houses dug into the side of hills.
Morning tea for Mothers Day (well the day after, everything in town was shut on Mothers Day) was at The Comfort Inn, after wandering around their dugout corridors, rooms and sitting areas. An amazing underground place.

  • Gemtree NT

    May 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 18 °C

Detoured off the main road to visit Gemtree. Did the zircon fossicking tour which was quite disappointing but we did find a small bag of zircons. Unfortunately only one is worth cutting. Did a camp oven meal up at the Billabong Bar here, catching up with Debbie and Dave that we had met at Alice Springs. Great night.Read more

  • Camooweal Qld

    May 31, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

One of our favourite spots. Camooweal has only recently opened up after the floods and unfortunately they are closing it to all but locals, for cultural reasons in a few weeks. Luckily we were able to take advantage of the small window that it is open. The bird life here is amazing and we spent many an hour watching the brolgas, egrets, herons and whistling kites feeding g from the billabong.Read more

  • Mt Isa Qld

    June 5, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Just a short stop at Mt Isa, 2 nights. The Underground Hospital was really good as was our drive out to Lake Moondarra.

    June 7, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Planned to stay here for 2 or 3 nights but unfortunately I tripped over whilst going for a walk and hurt my arm. Visited Mt Isa Hospital and they confirmed a broken elbow. Had another video appt with Townsville Specialist 10 days later from Mt Isa Hospital so had to chill out here longer than originally planned. Great place to chill.Read more

  • Normanton

    June 22, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

Have arrived in Normanton, the atmosphere here has the feel of the far north. The weather is in the low 30s and everything feels very laid back. We saw many, many brolgas just south of here and even more when we drove up to Karumba for Barra and chips at Ashes.
But Muttonhole Wetlands topped it all. Lots of water and water lilies everywhere, with brolgas, egrets, heron and darters spotted all around. Amazing!

  • Leichhardt Lagoon

    June 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Definitely one of our favourite places….so much bird life. Lots of water here still after the floods some time back, perfect for the water lilies which were just superb.

  • Atherton Tablelands

    June 29, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

It’s drizzled most days of our time up here, one week Malanda, one week Yungaburra and one week at Kuranda. Very annoying at times but really great for the waterfalls.

  • Yungaburra and surrounds

    July 6, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Spent out second week on The Tablelands at a farmstay on the Barron River near Yungaburra. Lots of rainforest and wildlife on the property. We also did several other rainforest walks and just soaked in the atmosphere.Read more

  • Kuranda

    July 13, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Very wet and muddy up here, even had to use 4WD just to park the van. The rainforest tracks are all wet and slippery so we picked our walks very carefully. Things finally started to dry out a bit toward the end of our stay. On the up side everything is so green and lush.Read more

  • Camping NSW

    August 28, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Lots of really good camping in this area. We camped once again at Mays Bend where we met some great people (Sue and Pete, Dave and Rod) and shared some great campfires and then with some of the same people (Dave and Rod) at Cobar Old Reservoir where we actually camped on grass…luxury!!Read more
