    Halifax Citadel

We toured the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site today. The Citadel, first built in 1749, sits on a hill high above the city and harbor that it defended. We watched the noon firing of the canon and the Highlander Grenadiers practicing their rifle and bayonet skills.
Afterward we ate lunch at McKelvie's near the wharf.

    Lunenburg

We have spent the last two days in the quaint little town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Lunenburg is a Unesco World Heritage site because it has retained the 1753 layout and architecture from its British origins. We toured the Knaut-Rhuland house built by early German settlers in 1793. We also toured the Atlantic Maritime Museum located on the colorful wharf.

    Tattoo

Last night we drove back to Halifax to attend the Royal Nova Scotian International Tattoo. The show is inspired by military tattoos and is given by military bands and display teams. There were also dance and theatrical performances from groups all over the world. The highlight were the many bagpipe regimental bands.
This morning we attended services at beautiful St. John's Anglican Church, the first church constructed in Lununburg in 1754. Another rainy day!

    Annapolis Royal

After another rainy drive, we arrived in Annapolis Royal. After setting up, we went first to see the generating station which is driven by the changing Bay of Fundy tides. Afterward we went into the historic part of town. I wanted to find the house of my 5th great grandparents the Tottens. I met with a genealogist who helped me. The house was right next door! Also there was a historic sign in front with his name and details of his arrival to the town in 1783. We were able to go inside because it is now Bailey's B & B , made famous by Mrs. Bailey for her moose nose soupもっと詳しく

    Digby/Ft. Anne

Today we drove to nearby Digby to see the port and eat their famed scallops. Yum! Dick was happy to also be able to watch the launching of Angela O, a large Digby scallop boat at the harbor. Afterward we returned to Annapolis Royal and toured Ft. Anne which was the most fought over land in all of North America. The fort contained a beautiful tapestry depicting the history of Annapolis Royal. We ended the day by going on a ghost tour through the Garrison Graveyard by the fort. Our guide was knowledgeable and also very entertaining.

    Bay of Fundy Tidal Bore

We saw an amazing sight today as we watched the tide first recede and then rush in pushing the water up the river at about 20 knots. We watched the water rise 10 ft. in a half hour on its way to a 28 ft. high tide.
Beautiful sunny day! We are spending the night in Debert, Nova Scotia.

    Hopewell Rocks

    Happy 4th of July!
Today we arrived in Hopewell Rocks--back in New Brunswick. The rocks are along the cliffs in the Bay of Fundy. They are called Flower Pots because they are standing in the water with trees and other vegetation on top. At low tide we were able to walk on the ocean floor along side of them. It is amazing how fast the tide rushes in and out.

    St. John, New Brunswick

We arrived yesterday at Rockwood Park in St. John, New Brunswick, our last stop in Canada. We visited the Old City Market downtown and then the New Brunswick Museum which contains many interesting artifacts of the early timber and shipbuilding industries.
Today we watched the Reserving Falls whose direction changes as the tide changes. We ended the day with a farewell dinner with our fellow campers.

    Old Orchard Beach, Maine

We spent yesterday and today in Old Orchard Beach visiting our friend Steve Putnam and his family at their summer cottage on the beach. It was nice to visit and be with them. Old Orchard is unique in Maine because the beach is seven miles of sand instead of rock. The Black Forest section of Old Orchard Beach Campground was one of the nicest parks we have stayed in on this trip.

    Salisbury, MA

We spent the last few days parked in Dick's brother's driveway on Ring's Island in Salisbury, MA. Great campsite with their house serving as our casita complete with great meals! Jerry and Bobbi were wonderful hosts. We also enjoyed going both to their beach cottage on Plum Island and our niece Abby and Jason's new lakefront home in NH. It was so much fun to see all of the kids.

    HersheyPark

After an overnight stop in Newburgh, NY, we arrived at Hershey, PA . We spent two action packed days with Avery and Grady at Chocolate World where they did a chocolate tasting and tour and then on to HersheyPark where their goal was to ride all fourteen of the roller coasters! Mission accomplished! I didn't know that there were such huge and scary roller coasters! Tonight we are all exhausted after a fun but tiring day.

We arrived in the D.C. area yesterday to join family for Dick's mom's memorial service at Arlington. We had a nice time catching up with family and sightseeing before the service on July 30th.
We stayed at Cherry Hill Park in College Park, MD--a nice park, but staying there entailed dealing with horrendous DC traffic each day since everyone else was staying in Alexandria.

    A Bump in the Road

A sensor failure in the DEF emissions control system put us out of commission. After spending the day on the side of I-95 in NC , we had to be towed 50 miles north to be near a repair facility. Fortunately we had just pulled into a rest area when the engine shut down signal occurred . The bad news is that Spartan tells us that the part is back ordered for two weeks. We are staying at Raleigh Oaks RV Resort in the meantime.

    Asheville

Yesterday we left the coach in Raleigh and drove our car to Asheville, NC. We had wanted to visit the Biltmore Estate and decided that it would be a nice thing to do while waiting for the part needed to repair the coach. The Biltmore was amazing and we enjoyed our two day stay here. We also enjoyed the city with its good restaurants (especially the Smoky Park Supper Club) and vibrant art scene.
Late this afternoon we learned that the part should be in Wed. and we will then be able to finally head home!
