  • Asheville

    5 de agosto de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Yesterday we left the coach in Raleigh and drove our car to Asheville, NC. We had wanted to visit the Biltmore Estate and decided that it would be a nice thing to do while waiting for the part needed to repair the coach. The Biltmore was amazing and we enjoyed our two day stay here. We also enjoyed the city with its good restaurants (especially the Smoky Park Supper Club) and vibrant art scene.
Late this afternoon we learned that the part should be in Wed. and we will then be able to finally head home!

  • A Bump in the Road

    1 de agosto de 2019, Estados Unidos ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

A sensor failure in the DEF emissions control system put us out of commission. After spending the day on the side of I-95 in NC , we had to be towed 50 miles north to be near a repair facility. Fortunately we had just pulled into a rest area when the engine shut down signal occurred . The bad news is that Spartan tells us that the part is back ordered for two weeks. We are staying at Raleigh Oaks RV Resort in the meantime.Leer más

We spent yesterday and today in Old Orchard Beach visiting our friend Steve Putnam and his family at their summer cottage on the beach. It was nice to visit and be with them. Old Orchard is unique in Maine because the beach is seven miles of sand instead of rock. Happy 4th of July!
Today we arrived in Hopewell Rocks--back in New Brunswick. The rocks are along the cliffs in the Bay of Fundy. They are called Flower Pots because they are standing in the water with trees and other vegetation on top. At low tide we were able to walk on the ocean floor along side of them. It is amazing how fast the tide rushes in and out.Leer más

After another rainy drive, we arrived in Annapolis Royal. After setting up, we went first to see the generating station which is driven by the changing Bay of Fundy tides. Afterward we went into the historic part of town. I wanted to find the house of my 5th great grandparents the Tottens. I met with a genealogist who helped me. The house was right next door! Also there was a historic sign in front with his name and details of his arrival to the town in 1783. We were able to go inside because it is now Bailey's B & B , made famous by Mrs. Bailey for her moose nose soupLeer más

We got early today to drive to Halifax. As soon as we tried to leave our site, we discovered that we were mired in mud and unable to move. After two hours of dumping gravel and wedging boards under the wheels, we realized that we needed help. We had to call a local tow truck to get us out! We were again delayed for a half hour for the swing bridge opening at the Canso Causeway while leaving the island. We finally arrived in Halifax late in the day and were exhausted.
Hope tomorrow will be a better day!
