  • View From The Castle

    December 16, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 43 °F

Some of my favorite views of the day were of the towns below the castles and out the windows. You can really see how the towns are laid out and how distant from each other they are.

Reminds me of that part of the Peter Pan ride when you fly over London.Read more

  • Schloss Neuschwanstein

    December 16, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ⛅ 41 °F

Bucket list ticked off. It was an adventure in itself to get to the castle(s). Bus and a very long walk. My suggestion is to pay the money and have the horses take you up. The tours were short and no photos from inside are allowed which was a shame. But it is really the exterior of the castles that are visually stunning. My photos don’t do any if it justice.Read more

  • Austria, Tirol

    December 17, 2019 in Germany ⋅ ☁️ 43 °F

Made it to Reutte Austria in the Tirol region. I’m trying to get to a suspension bridge. Easier said than done but I’m off to a good start.

  • Fort Cladia and Burg Ehrenberg

    December 17, 2019 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

This is a trio of castles from between 1293 and 1741. Unlike some of the restored castles I’ve seen these are mostly ruins. Fort Claudia named after Claudia de Medici is a defensive position of Ehrengerger Klause. I had Fort Claudia to myself.Read more

  • More Friends and a Few Castles

    December 17, 2019 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 45 °F

I read about the suspension bridge in Ehrenberg. The 150 bus took me right to the gate. However, the road is narrow and so to get back, the 150 bus has to go all the way to the next town. So Two helpful Americans to the rescue. A big thanks to Alice and Zander for the ride to the station.Read more

  • Alps

    December 17, 2019 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 46 °F

Crossed over the alps today. Unlike the Von Traps, I did it via train. I’m now in Austria. The mountains are tall and the valleys are green, which is a great contrast. The villages are in the wide spaces. I see these shacks/sheds all over. They might be summer places? Too many of them to be farm out buildings.Read more

  • Innsbruck, Austria

    December 17, 2019 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

First Impression made me think if San Francisco and Vail got together and had a kid. Graffiti, which I never saw in Germany, and brightly colored ski clothes on everyone. It is colorful and a little bit grubby at the same time. My hotel is right in the middle of a Christmas market near the Golden Roof. Complete with brass choir.Read more

  • Swarovski Crystal World (kristallwelten)

    December 19, 2019 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 43 °F

I had no idea what to expect here but it was really excellent. 16 rooms, each created by a different designer or artist incorporating crystals into everything. The spaces were multi-dimensional including smells. The exterior had sculptures and installations again with crystals. As the sun got over the hill the crystals all sparkled. I was first in the building so experienced everything uninterrupted. I suspect in the busy season the place is a zoo. The video is a dove projection within a large crystal. More photos soon.Read more

  • Hofkirche

    December 19, 2019 in Austria ⋅ ☁️ 50 °F

The location of Maximilian the firsts Cenotaph. However, he is not interned here. It is very beautiful. There is so much symbolism and thought that went in to creating it. It wasn’t finished until 40+ years after Maximilian death. Thus not being buried in it.Read more

  • Landeck, Austria

    December 20, 2019 in Austria ⋅ ⛅ 43 °F

I wonder why here, the snow is low on the pasture and hills above are green. The opposite of Innsbruck. First photo is Landeck, second is Innsbruck.

  • Lunch in Liechtenstein

    December 20, 2019 in Liechtenstein ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

One of the smallest countries in the world. Under a monarchy, in the mountains bordering Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. In my mind the country should look a cross between Hogwarts and Cinderella’s castle. I was so disappointed. It wasn’t any of those things. It was modern and except for the castle looked like Munich. Too bad. It is surprisingly the home of Hilti which is a product we use a lot of in our US buildings.Read more

  • Chur to Brig

    December 21, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ⛅ 32 °F

Today’s adventure I took the Glacier Express. It was Similar to the Polar Express. The train was nice with panorama windows. However, I think any other train would have been fine and I could have skipped the extra 33e reservation.

The white photo isn’t a mistake but how it looked at one point from the window of the train.

The first shot is from my hotel window. It looks like a train set to me.

  • Money

    December 22, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 32 °F

They say that things are expensive in Switzerland and I would agree to an extent. Eating out and the extra tourist things are indeed expensive. The market food items are only slightly higher than I would find in San Francisco but the markets are much smaller in size so imagine shopping at the neighborhood market all the time.

I emptied my pockets today and found all of these francs. 10.30 in coins. The 5 franc is really large and the 1/2 franc is smiler than the .10. Hard to figure out.

Off to see if I can catch a glimpse of the Matterhorn. .

  • Visp to Zermatt

    December 22, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 32 °F

So far the best views. I keep seeing construction sites and check out this roof!

  • Zermatt

    December 22, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ ☁️ 27 °F

Similar to Vail. Would be an interesting place to spend a couple of weeks. Maybe work?

  • Whymper-Strube Meal

    December 22, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌬 30 °F

Complete Swiss meal with rachlette (a slab of toasted cheese). Except they served French fries with the steak it was perfect.
It must have been one of the other 57 versions of Heinz as it tasted different.Read more

  • Montreux Electronics

    December 23, 2019 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌧 39 °F

I’m not sure if the prices are good or comparable. The sunglasses have built in Bose speakers. When I put them on the sound was great. Not sure how to use them on top of my glasses.
