• The Stunning Dancing Northern Lights

    30. november, Finland ⋅ 🌙 -9 °C

We were already impressed and did not expect it to get any better… but it did. Our last stop was at an open snow covered field. It is a pity our cameras couldn’t capture the sparkle of the pure white snow. That in itself was magical. And then we looked up - WOW WOW WOW. The lights dancing and twirling across the sky was breathtaking. That and the freezing cold temperatures - it was definitely getting cooler as the night went on. This stop we were also knee deep in shoe and the chill factor increased.
We marvelled at the spectacle until the cold was unbearable, then we would jump back in the van to warm ourselves up (thanks Peta for the hand warmers) before heading back out again. Brad did a dead man fall into the snow which was quite amusing.
Finally it got way too cold for us Aussies and we hunkered down in the van to warm our freezing fingers and toes. Our great guide, Jacob, provided us a very informational talk about the Northern Lights, how they are formed and how they work out how to find them. With the warm berry juice and chocolate muffins, it was a nice way to end such an amazing night, and an experience we will never forget.
Can’t wait for the photos Jacob took on his camera to come through.
