• Freezing Cold and Fuel Time

    December 2 in Finland ⋅ ☁️ -12 °C

Today we had to check out of our lovely cosy apartment to start our Aurora & Glass Igloo Tour. With it being a balmy -14 it was quite a brisk and chilly walk to our next location, Hotel Santa Claus. The difference between inside and outside is quite startling and the layering and unlayering can become quite tedious.
We dropped off our suitcases and headed out again to find a food. With sleeping through dinner last night and not having breakfast we were starting to feel quite hungry. Goal was somewhere warm and cosy with delicious food, and Ristorante Rosso proved to be the perfect option. With fabulous service, thanks Aija, and a Christmas themed spritz, we knew we had found somewhere to spend our day until check in time.
Feeling fed and happy, Peta and I checked out a couple of shops before returning to our very relaxed men. It is so surreal walking the snow covered streets, seeing icicles formed on cars, trees layered with white soft snow. It was also extremely cold with puffs of mist forming every time we breathed out. And I even spotted some street art.

Next stop was the clothing rental place. Today made us realise we were not ready for the bitterly cold temps and with an active outdoor day booked for tomorrow we decided we should rent a complete snow kit. Winterent did such an amazing job and left about half an hour later fully kitted up.
Once again leaving the shop at 3pm to discover it is now dark is still something we are not used to. It is such a weird feeling.
Finally it was time to check into our home for the next few nights. With plans to catch up later we settled into our rooms, happy to watch the snow falling outside our windows. However we once again made the mistake of getting too warm and comfy and all opted for a night in. We do have a very early start so we have a valid excuse.
