• Bréhec to Paimpol

    May 22 in France ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

I enjoyed warm croissants and bread this morning, with Nutella 😂, my fave breakfast spread. Plus cheese, yoghurt and fruit. I couldn't eat it all!
Dimitri, the owner of the hotel, is from Russia and came over in 2022. I didn't like to ask him, but I reckon he brought his family over to escape having to go to war - he's definitely fighting age!
The weather had changed massively since yesterday. It was sunny and warm, and I got a lovely pic of the harbour from my high-rise window.
I set off just before 0900, never with the intention of walking the whole coastal route today. It was a 23km day and, after yesterday's rainfall, I didn't fancy the steeper uppy downy bits. So I walked on the road out of Bréhec towards Paimpol. Although these are main roads, the traffic on them is sparse, so I always feel safe. I think I saw about 5 cars on the whole walk into Plouézec, a town half way between Bréhec and Paimol. The route led me upwards through a wood and, of course, with so little traffic, I could just listen to the birds. Plouézec is a sprawling town - it seemed to go on forever, but there was only a small town centre, where I stopped for a cold drink in the sunshine. As well as a large church, it had some very interesting sculptures!
The road then led me onwards through the neverending outskirts of Plouézec and went on for ages, but I found the route back to the GR34 and joined a pretty touristy path where there were lots of walkers and picnic ears. I came across some fabulous buildings, where I stopped to eat my 2 day old cheese sandwiches🙄😂. I was actually in Paimpol, but the path led all around the bay for 7km rather than leading me in via the roads. The walk was lovely and mostly flat, and I soon found myself at the port. There doesn't seem to be much else here, but there's a supermarket and lots of shod shops, and restaurants, of course!
I stopped for my celebratory beer and found a most original urinal in the loos😂.
The funfair is in Paimpol 😱. I'd had an email about it when I'd booked, so I'd asked for a quiet room at the back. It's a tad small, but fine for one, and I even have a study area😂. Fortunately, the fair doesn't start until tomorrow 🙏🙏🙏.
I've been out for a good wander and supper and that's me for the evening.
I'm off to Lézardrieux tomorrow, but I'm doing my usual short cut. I can definitely tell I'm coming to the end of my walk 😂. I'll have walked about 200km (about 125 miles) by the time I reach my final stop on Sunday, and that's enough!
