    Thompson Falls is a small town of about 1300 located near a natural falls on the Clark Fork River. It was established by a British fur trader and geographer, David Thompson in 1801. The railroad arrived in 1881 and the gold rush in nearby Coeur D' Alene brought more people to the area. Today it is a recreational area. There is also a hydro electric dam on the Clark Forks River which produces enough electricity for 85,000 homes.
