    Sydney to Tokyo

    Today was the start of our trip and we flew from Sydney to Tokyo. We arrived late afternoon in Tokyo and managed to make our way from the airport by subway to the E-Hotel Shinjuku. Tokyo is super busy! Arrived quite late so just went for a walk around and had some dinner and a beer!Baca lagi

  • Tokyo

    First day of exploring Tokyo so we decided to be super touristy and do the open top bus to see as much of the city as possible. Thankfully the weather held out while we were on the open top bus. We went for a long walk in the afternoon and at night went to a sushi place recommended in the lonely planet.. John wasn’t a huge fan as the sushi had wasabi already smothered all over it! We then went to Golden Gai which is a cute little area with laneways and the smallest bars I’ve ever seen.Baca lagi

  • Harajuku & Meiji-Jingu Gyoen

    We took the train to Harajuku to visit Meiji-Jingu Gyoen and explore the famous Takeshita-dori Street. We stopped to have some tasty noodles and tempura at the station... thank god for the bibs!! Later we checked out Shibuya Crossing which is the busiest crossing in the world with over 1000 people crossing each time! At night we went for some dinner and drinks in around Shinjuku.Baca lagi

  • Bullet train to Hakone

    We left Tokyo today and travelled by bullet train to Hakone to stay in a cute Japanese inn called Yoshiike Ryokan which has an amazing onsen. We arrived in enough time to take the ropeway, cable car and boat across the lake. It was cloudy when we arrived so we couldn’t see Mt Fuji, but I did manage to get a snap from the bullet train. Tonight we ate a traditional Japanese dinner and slept on tatami-mats.Baca lagi

  • Kyoto

    Today’s our last day in Kyoto so we packed as much as we could in starting with the morning at Nijo-jo castle and finished the afternoon at Fushimi Inari-Taisha which is a mountain with endless amounts of torri (shrine gates) and loads of steps!!! In the evening we went for dinner and a walk around the Gion area followed by a drink in Ponto-cho street which is one of the most beautiful little lanes I’ve ever seen.Baca lagi

    We took the bullet train from Kyoto to Osaka today and are having a night of luxury in the Westin. We went to Osaka-jo Castle during the day and then went to Dotombori in the evening for the most amazing and largest sushi train I’ve ever seen.Baca lagi

  • Hiroshima and Miyajima

    Today we arrived in Hiroshima and as we do t have long here we dumped our bags and went straight to Miyajima island.... wow what an amazing place! It has a huge Torii shrine in the water and stunning views. We took the cable car to the top of Mt Misen and had to walk down as they didn’t take card and we only had cash for a one way ticket. I don’t think I’ve ever seen John move so fast especially after he seen the signs about the snakes!!!Baca lagi

  • Shanghai

    Today we had an early start and travelled from Hiroshima to Shanghai via Tokyo. When we arrived in Shanghai we took the Maglev to the city, which is the fastest magnetic levitation train in the world at 430kms! We arrived at our hotel the Greenland Jiulong and decided to go for a walk around and take some photos of the Oriental Peal Tower. We then had some noodle soup at the hotel... don’t think we will go back there for dinner tomorrow 😂Baca lagi

  • Walk around Shanghai

    We had a free day today to explore before meeting the tour group at night so we walked down the Bund and took a ferry to the other side of the river to check out the Oriental Pear Tower. We went for a really nice fancy lunch and continued exploring and took the ferry back over the river. We walked around the hotel area and discovered some nice little places to eat and a Starbucks! We went to the welcome meeting for the tour and everybody seems to be really nice. We went for some dinner at a place near the hotel which we had said earlier that day looked disgusting...but it was actually quite nice. We both had some kind of duck noodles. We went for a couple of drinks in a bar with Kristy, Lyle and Yurik.Baca lagi

  • Walking tour of Shanghai

    Today we joined our tour group for a walking tour of Shanghai along the Bund, Yu Garden and the French concession area of the city. The weather was quite wet so a few of us found a nice little restaurant to have some lunch and a glass of wine. In the evening we went to see the Shanghai acrobats which was amazing!Baca lagi

  • Xitang and overnight train to Xi'an

    To we left Shanghai to go visit a water village called Xitang which is about 90 mins away from Shanghai. We walked around the little water streets and went to a little cafe which took over an hour to make coffees!!! We then returned to Shanghai to catch the sleeper train to Xi’an. We upgraded to soft sleeper before we left Sydney, but the rest of the group hadn’t so we were separated from the main group. The actual cabin was fine and we were glad we had upgraded when we went to visit the others later with our bottle of red. Excited about seeming the terracotta warriors tomorrow in Xi’an.Baca lagi

    After a night roughing it on the sleeper train we checked in at the HNA hotel in Xi’an and headed out to get “pancakes” which actually turned out to be a stall which sold a bread filled with egg, tofu, chilli and vegetables... it was delicious! We then went on a walking tour to see the city wall, bell tower, drum tower and the Muslim quarter. The people here are so much friendlier. In the evening we went to see a show at the city wall which was really impressive.Baca lagi

  • Last day in Beijing with the tour group

    Last day of our guided tour stared with dumplings, congee and spring rolls for breakfast with the group. After breakfast we went for a walking tour of Tiananmen Square which is massive and can hold 1 million people! We then web for a walk through the forbidden city which is of an unbelievable scale with so many buildings within the city walls. In the afternoon we went for a walk around the houtoun (streets) with our guide and had some lovely dumplings. In the evening we went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner with the group to have Peking Duck which was delicious. The night ended with us all in a karaoke room!!!Baca lagi

    Last day in Beijing so we took a walk through the Hutong (traditional streets) and came across an upmarket French bakery so overloaded on carbs for breakfast!!! In the afternoon we went for a walk around Jingshang Park which has amazing views of the the forbidden city. In the evening we took a flight to Colombo, Sri LankaBaca lagi

    After a night of flying we arrived early to the Galle Face Hotel and thankfully they took pity on us and checked us in early. We had a walk around the immediate area and relaxed by the pool. In the evening we had a lovey dinner in the hotel and couple of drinks.Baca lagi

  • Bentota

    Today we experienced the Sri Lankan railway which was definitely an experience. We had 2nd class tickets and once onboard the train we had to find seats on the already busy carriages. Thankfully we found 2 seats and we enjoyed the scenery on the way to Bentota. When we arrived we walked to the Centara Hotel and were greeted by a large Water Monitor which is a large lizard... John was less than impressed! In the afternoon we took a walk around Bentota and found that it was a really poor little town with little to do and quite a lot of people pestering us for tours and shops.Baca lagi

  • Galle

    We’ve had a lovely 5 nights of relaxation at the Centara in Bentota. The weather was really mixed and the town of Bentota very small with lots of people hassling for business, so we didn’t venture out much and just recharged our batteries. Today we caught the train from Bentota to Galle where we will be staying for 3 nights at the Amari Galle. The hotel is really nice and the pool beautiful.Baca lagi
