  • Change of Plan - again

    27 de septiembre de 2022, Francia ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

We don’t seem to be spending hours and hours on the road between stops with the result that we appear to be a bit behind schedule even though we have maybe 6 weeks or so left. So change of plan it is which is also driven by the need for some of this ☀️☀️☀️☀️. It seems it’s warmer and drier back home in Scotland than it is in France . 🥴 At the moment though We are parked up at a lovely site - Chateau L’Eperviere, it’s got everything, would imagine it’s packed in the summer. As this is the last two days of the season, it’s not, and it’s still tossing it down. So leaving a day early and we are off to Chamonix, up to Mont Blanc. Not expecting much sun their either but it’s the start of the road South to the Med for a park up on the Italian side of the Italian / French border . Here’s hoping for some ☀️

  • We gave in to the Sun god 😉

    28 de septiembre de 2022, Italia ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Set off this morning heading to Chamonix, a place we’ve always fancied and we were armed with a bucket list of the top 5 things to do in Chamonix. How did we get on 🤔. Miserably, like the weather. It tossed it down the whole way there and it was even worse in Chamonix. With torrential rain forecast for the next 24 hours we prayed to the Sun gods for guidance. And off we went through the Mont Blanc tunnel and onwards South ending up in Cuneo after 546 kms. AND at last some blue skies and 20 degrees. Our Anniversary dinner ended up being a Pizza in Cuneo, not a fine dining experience in Chamonix. But that’s life and we’d had enough of the rain and just had to journey South. Tonight we are parked up in a sports center car park in the town, no mountain vistas, no lakes , no rushing glacial rivers but at least it’s not chucking it down. Sorry people not many photos. Apple phones are not waterproof 😉
    Good night all

  • Buongiorno

    29 de septiembre de 2022, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Quiet and peaceful night in the Sports Center Car park in Cuneo. At this very moment we are not sure where we are heading as we are waiting to see if we can change a booking at a site in Ventimiglia on the coast for the fourth time. 🤞Were off to get a coffeeLeer más

  • Mountain road to nowhere

    29 de septiembre de 2022, Italia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We set off this morning on the most direct route from Cuneo to Ventimiglia. All the way up a mountain pass only to find the tunnel we needed to go through was closed! However, we were so glad we’d gone all the way to the top as we got stunning views all around - photos from the van weren’t always the easiest though!
So……..having made our way back down and back to Cuneo, Mrs SatNav lady decided to take us on a tour of Northern Italy! 🥴 Tunnel after tunnel after tunnel!
On arriving at our campsite, Steve managed to do a thirty point turn to squeeze us into our slot! 😅
Now on the warmer Côte d’Azur we headed out for a walk down to the beach and found ourselves a nice spot on what soon became an extremely windy terrace for a wee G & T. Here we watched some surfer dudes enjoying some pretty spectacular waves!
Nice tomorrow, hope it stays dry…….

  • Was Nice nice - it certainly was.

    30 de septiembre de 2022, Italia ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

A lift to Menton station from the MH site and then the train to Nice - what a cracking day. I’d been before, Suzan hadn’t, but been promised and how I delivered on my promise that she’d enjoy it 😉. With the weather sorted, Inshallah, we enjoyed the delights of Nice. The market area, the bars, cafés, side streets etc it has it all. If you haven’t been, go it’s a great city. Absolutely shattered now and tucked up ready for the next mini adventure/ stopover.

  • What a day

    2 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ 🌬 19 °C

One of the Swiss girls from the Van next to us at Por La Mar gave us a knock this morning needing help to get their van out of the tight park up. As the other girl was in hospital with a fractured skull and broken ribs after falling off her bicycle - wow. Now for us. After successfully leaving the campsite without incident (Suzan had sleepless nights over it) and travelling to St Tropez I managed to catch the wing mirror, twice going through the tolls and once on a van going in the opposite direction- no damage done. We eventually arrived on site in Port Grimaud at Les Mures a cracking site and took about an hour to get settled - first parked one way , then 180 degrees turn , then the cable was too short, then an extension from reception that didn’t work, then another 180 degree turn and voila . Sorted to the delight of our watching neighbours. However we are on the French Riviera- still and the weather is great. After a stressful day - Life is still Good 👍 😉Leer más

  • St Tropez

    2 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Super yachts, super cars and Steve got a puncture! 🤦🏼‍♀️
Ronnie still on the hunt for his better half too.
What a smashing day from Les Mures Campsite right around the bay, through Port Grimaud all the way to St Tropez on a cracking cycle path.
Lovely lunch et deux vin rouge and back to the van. So nice cycling in this weather!

  • Aix En Provence

    4 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

AEP had been recommended to us as a worthy stopover on our way west from St Tropez so off we toddled. Park ups, Aires, camp sites etc were not in abundance but we managed to get on a small (3 MHs) site 10 mins cycle ride from the center , mind you it felt as if I’d scraped half the bottom of the van off on the camber coming in - but I hadn’t . Anyway enough of that, AEP didn’t disappoint it’s another cracking town with a buzz about it. Numerous bars, cafés, restaurants and squares and of course the weather helps☀️. . A jolly round town and after lunch we were back for a lazy afternoon watching the sun go down. Early start in the morning as we are heading to a market town - and the market is on 👍.

  • A Free site - But 🥴🤑

    5 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

We left at 7.30 this morning (Suzan was sleep walking - not an early bird 😉) And headed for a France Passion site in the town of Uzès called Domaine Saint Firmin , it’s a vineyard , bottling plant and has a shop with wine tasting. The site was pretty full with about a dozen MHs parked up. The town is superb and 300m from the site. That’s where the free bit ended - it was market day - olive oils, cheeses, breads, meat , pastries etc etc , and a few samples were purchased . After a wee snack it was back to Leo and a dip into the vineyard shop for the wine tasting and another purchase. Cracking day, cheese and wine for supper , a read of the book and bedtime. • Im afraid its more of the same - another

    6 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

You must have a pot of Moules when in Brugge they said. I didn’t, but I’ve promised myself I would in every town we’ve been to through France but never managed yet - until today. And where better than in a restaurant that has a mussel farm at La Noisette d’oc not far from Mèze. Another France Passion stop that’s ticked the boxes, the mussels were bloody good, twice the bowl size and half the price of what we’ve seen in the restaurants - I luv a bargain 😉. They were so good Suzan had a bowl. And after a siesta (I know wrong country 😉) we headed into Mèze for a shandy and a look round.
Another beautiful little French town that the photos don’t do justice to.
    Good night All

  • Carcassonne

    7 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Drove over to Carcassonne today along more beautiful roads lined with plane trees and many many poplar trees on view along the way. Had a wee Google on the poplars and this is what I found….

Rather charmingly, French fathers traditionally plant a grove of poplars when their daughters are born. The idea is that they will be mature and ready to fell just when the daughter gets married, and the proceeds from the sale of the poplar wood funds the wedding festivities. You can always tell a family with ugly daughters because their poplars are left to get old and gnarled.

But what is the wood actually used for, you are still wondering...

Well, apparently it is used for fruit boxes ! And cheese boxes ! No wonder there are so many groves – French cheesemakers would be devastated if the supply ran out. Looks like poplar may be 'the only wood that is food grade and pliable enough'.
Poplar is also widely used to make paper, and there is a long tradition of high quality paper manufacture in France.

Now onto the medieval City of Carcassonne. I have wanted to visit here since reading a Kate Mosse book called Labyrinth many years ago. I had a vision in my mind of what it would look like and the imposing walls certainly did not disappoint!! We sat having a drink surrounded by ancient walls and I could just imagine the stories they could tell from centuries ago.
Such a wonderful feel to this ancient city within the 4km of ramparts.
After a lovely meal and a bottle of the local red we then had to find our bikes which we had locked up as we entered the walls - took us a wee while but so, so many pics to be taken. Very hard to whittle down what to post to be honest. Back to Leo for a nightcap and Ronnie is ready for 💤
    Favourite place so far! ❤️

  • Canal du Midi

    9 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

So as we leave Carcassonne a few more pics of this amazing place. Housekeeping day and Steve did the washing and managed to get everything back the colour it left! Ha ha Cycled along the Canal du Midi to Trebes and looped back to Carcassonne.
Some beautiful vines with changing colours of Autumn and a wee stop off for a cheeky wee glass of vin rouge! 🍷😜 Lovely moon last night too! Heading into Spain today and fingers crossed we find somewhere still open to stay!! Everything seems to close in September?!? 🥴

  • Curry in Roses

    9 de octubre de 2022, Francia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

As we left France and crossed over the border into Spain, the Pyrenees shone in all their glory. The sky was blue and we headed for Roses where we hope to secure a campsite for a couple of nights. Camping Rodas hit the brief and parked up we headed into Roses in search of a curry which we both fancied. It delivered albeit not as spicy as we’re used to but chicken handi and chilli
Chicken it was with a lovely garlic naan. All washed down with a chilled (yes chilled, we’re in Spain now 🥴) bottle of Rioja.
Ronnie didn’t fancy a curry so stayed behind to look after Leo for us.

  • I get it.

    10 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Travelling for days / weeks on end in a box on wheels. Endless miles, motorways, not for sure where you are going, what will the next campsite be like ? , where will it be ? Etc etc . But “ I get it “, I get what this MH life is about. It’s the 10th of October and after enjoying a 10 mile bike ride we are on a beach having a beer on the Costa Brava and then a BBQ back at the camp. And it just gets better even after 4 weeks on the road. Do I feel as if it’s time to turnaround and start heading back North . No I do not.

  • Barca

    12 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Arrived at Camping Barcelona yesterday and squeezed onto a pitch next to another Brit van. Turns out we met them on an Aire in Arras, France 3 weeks earlier- small world for sure. The camp , a 30 minute journey from Barcelona, had a regular bus service to and fro so on we hopped. We have always wanted to visit Barca so the City bus tour was the ideal way of seeing it. What a disappointment. We just weren’t impressed with the city. The Rambles (a pedestrian route of Cafes and stalls etc) and the side streets off it were however worthy of exploring on foot. It’s a case of been there , done it and worn the tee shirt I’m afraid. Had a couple of good nights though having a shandy with Bryn and Mandy. Now off further South for hopefully three days of sun on a site close to a beach.

  • “Costa Berlin”

    13 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Not saying there’s many Germans here 🥴.
Moved 245kms further down the coast to Torre La Sal campsite at Oropesa Del Mar after first negotiating my exit from Camping Barcelona - a bit forward, a bit of a reverse into another spot a turn to the right and another reverse. Mission accomplished and we were off. After a bit of brekkie somewhere on the road down and a change of drivers we got to Torre Las Sal and the kind lassie had gave us two pitches albeit with a hedge down the middle , could I hell get in. Suz was all for the off after the stressful departure this morning 😂. We Ended up with pitch 747 and yes it was like parking a ‘Jumbo’ even in this one. Anyway we’re in, set up and looking to chill for a few days - exit strategy already worked out 😉.
In bed listening to some good old German tunes from the bar across the road 😉

What a fabulous coast line! Great bike ride along a great cycle path called the Via Verde Del Mar to Benicassim. One of the most impressive Caesar salads we’ve had and a nice glass of vino blanco right on the beach. 27°C on the 14th October - what’s not to love?Leer más

  • Wish You Were Here ……..

    15 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

Never moved for a few days now and thoroughly enjoyed our day on the beach on the loungers reading and listening to some tunes. cracking weather. Mind you we couldn’t bring ourselves to go for a dip unlike our German neighbours who must be more hardy than us . Enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine at a bargain price of 2.7 eu and a BBQ. Off tomorrow to Calpe for more of the same and to meet a pal from the old town of Sunderland- could be messy .

    17 de octubre de 2022, España ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Just spent a couple of very enjoyable days in Calpe , weather was great, campsite spacious , the G&Ts were aplenty and I caught up with an old pal from back home. What more could you ask for. Calpe was our last stop heading South so tomorrow it’s a 180’ turnaround starting the slow journey back home. There’s no rush 😉
