    October 6, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

You must have a pot of Moules when in Brugge they said. I didn’t, but I’ve promised myself I would in every town we’ve been to through France but never managed yet - until today. And where better than in a restaurant that has a mussel farm at La Noisette d’oc not far from Mèze. Another France Passion stop that’s ticked the boxes, the mussels were bloody good, twice the bowl size and half the price of what we’ve seen in the restaurants - I luv a bargain 😉. They were so good Suzan had a bowl. And after a siesta (I know wrong country 😉) we headed into Mèze for a shandy and a look round.
Another beautiful little French town that the photos don’t do justice to.
    Good night All

  • Carcassonne

    October 7, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Drove over to Carcassonne today along more beautiful roads lined with plane trees and many many poplar trees on view along the way. Had a wee Google on the poplars and this is what I found….

Rather charmingly, French fathers traditionally plant a grove of poplars when their daughters are born. The idea is that they will be mature and ready to fell just when the daughter gets married, and the proceeds from the sale of the poplar wood funds the wedding festivities. You can always tell a family with ugly daughters because their poplars are left to get old and gnarled.

But what is the wood actually used for, you are still wondering...

Well, apparently it is used for fruit boxes ! And cheese boxes ! No wonder there are so many groves – French cheesemakers would be devastated if the supply ran out. Looks like poplar may be 'the only wood that is food grade and pliable enough'.
Poplar is also widely used to make paper, and there is a long tradition of high quality paper manufacture in France.

Now onto the medieval City of Carcassonne. I have wanted to visit here since reading a Kate Mosse book called Labyrinth many years ago. I had a vision in my mind of what it would look like and the imposing walls certainly did not disappoint!! We sat having a drink surrounded by ancient walls and I could just imagine the stories they could tell from centuries ago.
Such a wonderful feel to this ancient city within the 4km of ramparts.
After a lovely meal and a bottle of the local red we then had to find our bikes which we had locked up as we entered the walls - took us a wee while but so, so many pics to be taken. Very hard to whittle down what to post to be honest. Back to Leo for a nightcap and Ronnie is ready for 💤
    Favourite place so far! ❤️

  • Canal du Midi

    October 9, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

So as we leave Carcassonne a few more pics of this amazing place. Housekeeping day and Steve did the washing and managed to get everything back the colour it left! Ha ha Cycled along the Canal du Midi to Trebes and looped back to Carcassonne.
Some beautiful vines with changing colours of Autumn and a wee stop off for a cheeky wee glass of vin rouge! 🍷😜 Lovely moon last night too! Heading into Spain today and fingers crossed we find somewhere still open to stay!! Everything seems to close in September?!? 🥴

  • Curry in Roses

    October 9, 2022 in France ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

As we left France and crossed over the border into Spain, the Pyrenees shone in all their glory. The sky was blue and we headed for Roses where we hope to secure a campsite for a couple of nights. Camping Rodas hit the brief and parked up we headed into Roses in search of a curry which we both fancied. It delivered albeit not as spicy as we’re used to but chicken handi and chilli
Chicken it was with a lovely garlic naan. All washed down with a chilled (yes chilled, we’re in Spain now 🥴) bottle of Rioja.
Ronnie didn’t fancy a curry so stayed behind to look after Leo for us.

  • I get it.

    October 10, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 18 °C

Travelling for days / weeks on end in a box on wheels. Endless miles, motorways, not for sure where you are going, what will the next campsite be like ? , where will it be ? Etc etc . But “ I get it “, I get what this MH life is about. It’s the 10th of October and after enjoying a 10 mile bike ride we are on a beach having a beer on the Costa Brava and then a BBQ back at the camp. And it just gets better even after 4 weeks on the road. Do I feel as if it’s time to turnaround and start heading back North . No I do not.

  • Barca

    October 12, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Arrived at Camping Barcelona yesterday and squeezed onto a pitch next to another Brit van. Turns out we met them on an Aire in Arras, France 3 weeks earlier- small world for sure. The camp , a 30 minute journey from Barcelona, had a regular bus service to and fro so on we hopped. We have always wanted to visit Barca so the City bus tour was the ideal way of seeing it. What a disappointment. We just weren’t impressed with the city. The Rambles (a pedestrian route of Cafes and stalls etc) and the side streets off it were however worthy of exploring on foot. It’s a case of been there , done it and worn the tee shirt I’m afraid. Had a couple of good nights though having a shandy with Bryn and Mandy. Now off further South for hopefully three days of sun on a site close to a beach.

  • “Costa Berlin”

    October 13, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Not saying there’s many Germans here 🥴.
Moved 245kms further down the coast to Torre La Sal campsite at Oropesa Del Mar after first negotiating my exit from Camping Barcelona - a bit forward, a bit of a reverse into another spot a turn to the right and another reverse. Mission accomplished and we were off. After a bit of brekkie somewhere on the road down and a change of drivers we got to Torre Las Sal and the kind lassie had gave us two pitches albeit with a hedge down the middle , could I hell get in. Suz was all for the off after the stressful departure this morning 😂. We Ended up with pitch 747 and yes it was like parking a ‘Jumbo’ even in this one. Anyway we’re in, set up and looking to chill for a few days - exit strategy already worked out 😉.
In bed listening to some good old German tunes from the bar across the road 😉

  • Costa del Azahar

    October 14, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

What a fabulous coast line! Great bike ride along a great cycle path called the Via Verde Del Mar to Benicassim. One of the most impressive Caesar salads we’ve had and a nice glass of vino blanco right on the beach. 27°C on the 14th October - what’s not to love?Read more

  • Wish You Were Here ……..

    October 15, 2022 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 20 °C

Never moved for a few days now and thoroughly enjoyed our day on the beach on the loungers reading and listening to some tunes. cracking weather. Mind you we couldn’t bring ourselves to go for a dip unlike our German neighbours who must be more hardy than us . Enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine at a bargain price of 2.7 eu and a BBQ. Off tomorrow to Calpe for more of the same and to meet a pal from the old town of Sunderland- could be messy .

  • And now for a 180 degree turn

    October 17, 2022 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Just spent a couple of very enjoyable days in Calpe , weather was great, campsite spacious , the G&Ts were aplenty and I caught up with an old pal from back home. What more could you ask for. Calpe was our last stop heading South so tomorrow it’s a 180’ turnaround starting the slow journey back home. There’s no rush 😉
