    That’s us away for our trip to Amsterdam and Onwards. We are parked up in North Berwick which seems to be a very popular park up. Time to try out the new lithium battery set up - Eurovision is on 😉👍. And before we jump on the ferry I’m having my favourite tipple, Voddie and Irn Bru as I’m sure Bru will be in short supply in mainland Europe. Wine it is then or a German beer or two. 🍺🍺Leer más

    Thoroughly enjoyed the ferry from Newcastle to Amsterdam, definitely the way to do it instead of the trek down to Folkestone . A few beers in the Sky Bar before it chucked it down . Only one thing for it - The Lounge 🍺🍺🍺🍺Leer más

    Unfortunately it’s cold and damp. Drove to Edam and cycled to Volendam which has a very touristy front overlooking the sea which we would better appreciate it the sun was shining. As it was Suzan had a cup of hot chocolate 😂
    Now tucked up in Gaasper Camp Site . Tomorrow, the metro into the city. The dogs not ours 😉    Leer más

    Amsterdam Day 2

    10 minute walk to the tram station and with our 24hr Ticket (allows use of all public transport within the 24hrs) we boarded the tram for Amsterdam. Went looking for a market I’d seen online but we ended up in a dodgy kind of looking area so made our way back to get the tram back to Dam Square. However on our way we come across a microbrewery so as it would have been so rude to not try it - we did! All downhill after that sampling ‘most’ of what Amsterdam has to offer but definitely not ALL! Ha ha had a good night wandering round and finally getting the tram back to Gaasper. Mi d you we’d have still been on the tram if it hadn’t been for a lovely young lady waking us both up from deep slumber! 🤣 Just as well it terminated at our stop!Leer más

    Sjoelbak anyone?

    Rotterdam today to Stadscamping site. Picked up by our dear friends Nita & Hans who showed us around Rotterdam and took us for a tour of a working windmill. Fascinating how they still have the same original stones grinding the spices within the wood frame which was rebuilt after a fire in 1962! After a smashing afternoon sitting out in their beautiful garden, Hans put on his apron and set to work on a delicious meal for us all. It was Nita & Hans who introduced us to Rummikub many years ago in Dubai. This time they introduced us to the joys of Sjoelbak! Such fun and laughs! Thanks guys for a cracking day!     A Bridge To Far

    Got to Arnhem this morning, I just had to see the famous bridge and popped in to the wee museum dedicated to the famous stand off by the Brits. Park up was a great spot on the quayside not far from the bridge. Evening meal was a DIY Korean BBQ. Got some pointers off the German guy next door as to where to visit on the Rhine once in Germany .
    And there was some heat in the sky 👍☀️

    Not Exactly To Plan

    Left Arnhem planning a long drive to Cochem in Germany. Cut a long story short, we couldn’t have got a slot for our e-bikes never mind Leo. A German long weekend and it was mobbed. Soldiered on and after 7 hour trek ended up behind a hotel in the middle of nowhere. Albeit with some festival going on down the road somewhere but we are knackered. We need a campsite for a few days to chill out but not holding out much luck as every German MH in existence is on the road 😉Leer más

    Wurzburg

    Cracking place, lots of Squares, bars, cycle tracks, on the river and sunshine ☀️ 👍. Parked up in a Stellplatz which has about 15 legit parking places but it was chocca. MHs parking everywhere. Local council obviously not bothered as the MHs stay overnight and pay more to get out. And revenue to the town of course. 👍. A bit like the UK 🥴. To buy a glass of wine and drink it on the bridge brings you good luck 👍🥂Leer más

    18th Hole

    Today was a bit like a s*** day of golf. 17 holes of I’ll never play again and on the 18th you get a par. Well today was like that. DO NOT wing it on a German holiday long weekend . Another 7 hours on the road and giving up all hope of getting somewhere to stay we end up on on a cracking site west of Salzburg. 7 days on the road and no ice. In desperation went to ask my German neighbours as I was desperate, and they obliged. Pray to The Lord 🙏 But There’s a bit to do to convince me Germany is the place to be.     Started the day with a bbq’d bacon buttie and then some housekeeping on Leo! Tried to get some washing done but it was ‘app’ based and would have been €20 for a one off €4 wash so we decided to leave it for now!!
    Beautiful campsite, well kept with big pitches and all facilities.
    Bike ride early afternoon before a thunder storm hit with unbelievable rain, soon dried up though and back to glorious sunshine 🌞
    A blether with our German neighbours before a game of Canasta - all in all a smashing day!    Leer más

    Chiemsee

    We are travelling around the Bavaria area killing time really until we get to Salzburg for maybe a three night stay and a guided tour of the City, and an improving weather situation. Today we are at Lake Chiemsee and it’s a day for doing nothing. Attempted a cycle and got soaked. But we are in Bavaria and the scenery is amazing.

    Headed down to Konigsee, still in Germany, south of Salzburg. Bit of a miserable day but cracking all the same. Absolutely stunning area. The tourist binos look up to Hitlers Eagles Nest, however 🌫️🌨️. Took a boat trip up the ‘Loch’ 😉. The photos tell it all. Just happens we just made the last one back. Must have been the German beer and the red wine. 🍺🍷🍷 . Curry wurst mit pommes frites for lunch and Schnitzel for tea - what else 😉Leer más

    Lifesaver

    An hours drive to the outskirts of Salzburg to another park up. Idea is that we can get an early bird shout onto a campsite close to the City Centre, where we are planning to stay for three nights to chill as the weather looks good. Apart from that not much to tell apart from our cycle ride which was very pleasant , until my chain parted company with the bike about 10 miles from the park up. I was on one side of the road with my chain on the other looking like a snake road kill. Meanwhile Suzans sides are splitting at my meltdown. My God am I pleased I carry a bit of a tool bag with me which includes, thank god a link pin removal tool, or today a lifesaver . How glad I was to get back. Tomorrow is a trip to a bicycle repair shop 🥴Leer más

    Shreddies Dahling??

    After a super free overnight park up on the outskirts of Salzburg (Badesee Liefering Salzachseen) we woke to the sound of chattering and laughter and the smell of coffee outside……we, once again, had become part of a TV production base camp! Ha ha apparently this was where all the actors came to get brekkie before their make up and costume on a German murder mystery called Watzmann Ermittelt. Lots to ‘nosey’ at whilst we had our own brekkie!
    Moved on to our campsite stay for 3 nights where the skies are blue! Yay! Camping Nord Sam still in Salzburg where we got all our washing done and Leo cleaned out once again! #houseworkevenontheroad    Leer más

    Road to nowhere

    Porridge for breakfast- maybe, if it hadn’t ended up all over the place and having left Salzburg the day went further down hill. We tried to do Austria without a GoBox and failed miserably. Plan was to travel from Salzburg to Villach avoiding the tolls.The scenery along the way through the alpine mountains and pastures was amazing. The satnav then told us in 1.1 Kms we were to join the Ferry 😱. It was actually a transport train but not for MHs. We had come to a dead end in Bockstein. 25 miles back down the road we hit the tolls and bought a GoBox, found the first Stellplatz and settled down for the night. Another frustrating day And to top it all as it was a holiday absolutely nothing, and I mean nothing was open. Slovenia tomorrowLeer más

    Into Slovenia

    Stopped at a Stellplatz at the back of a hotel just off the Autoroute on the way to Slovenia. Peaceful night and great facilities in the Hotel. But nothing comes cheap it seems in Germany and Austria. Free park ups are few and far between. However soldiered on to Kranjska Gora just across the border for a bit of lunch then onto Bled and the lake campsite - no chance the place was heaving. Looks like a great place to spend some time though. Ended up at Camping Sobec just along the road. It’s a resort, nae cheap, but we were glad to get somewhere. A super site and there were some great pitches on the river. Now we are in Ljubljana, the capital, on a car park belonging to a restaurant. 15 euros but you don’t have to eat there. The bike ride was about 5 minutes into Lub center. A wettish sort of day and I wouldn’t hurry back. After the superb Salzburg, Ljubljana fell a bit short IMO. We did find a Nespresso shop though 👍. Never mind we push on tomorrow into Croatia.Leer más

    The tites go down and the mites go up!

    Today we visited the Postojna Caves. A vast 5km of limestone caverns up to 100metres below the surface. Absolutely fascinating and so glad we did it. A short train ride took us down and inwards, then we continued on foot which turned into quite a workout but we made it, even with my dodgy hip!
    After this we still had a long drive to get to our planned overnight stop at Big Bear Camping Resort. As we drive through our first toll in Croatia we managed to rack up our first scrape with Leo! Not too much damage, a new light which is easily replaced and a bit of tlc to get the bumper stuck back on when we get home.
    Anyway we arrive at the campsite in Plitvice National Park (pics tomorrow), and have some lovely bbq’d chook and salad before retiring. Early start tomorrow to the Plitvice Lakes.    Leer más

    Yip, worth a visit. A tourist attraction for sure but very well organised. Glorious day, sun shining, albeit a bit of a hike , but manageable. First impression of Croatia. Miles and miles of lush green meagrely populated country side. Very friendly locals and a most speak English. What’s not to like. Mind you the photos and vids don’t do it justiceLeer más

    Continued heading south and booked into the camp as above. Lot of work going on in the Marina which didn’t impact the campsite. First day was glorious and the second it chucked it down .     Venice

    Parked up at Fusina camp site, the ferry to Venice is a 5 minute walk and a 25 minute journey across the lagoon. Never been to Venice before and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We both went in on the 7th and I had another stroll round on the 8th . Had a 6.5 km walk in and out of streets and over bridges. And the weather was glorious 👌. Campsite was Mozi heaven , never touched me but thoroughly enjoyed Suzan 🥴. 🦟 🦟 . Oh and we popped into “Harry’s Bar”, checked the price list but didn’t have the nerve to do the walk of shame . So we had a signature Bellini. 22 euro a pop. And the barman reckons he knocks out 500-600 a day. Money for auld rope 😉.Leer más

    Camping Tiglio, Half way between Sirmione and Peschiera at the bottom of Lake Garda. Cracking lake front pitch for a couple of nights. Cycled 4 miles into Sirmione, it was roasting and heaving but a cracking place to visit. Spent hours watching the Great Crested Grebes going through their mating rituals. BBQ and beers.     Waited for the thunder storm, which didn’t arrive, before we cycled into Pescheria , only a couple of miles. Cracking Town, quaint town Center with numerous shops and restaurants and a decent size marina with pebble beaches either side and multiple campsites. Had an Italian which was a bit disappointing, think we’ll stick to 🍕. Weather was glorious and the storm did roll in about 10pm. We’ve enjoyed our stay on Lake Garda, next Lake Como.     Olginate

    Left Lake Garda and headed for Lake Como, the small town of Olginate. It was a camper car park right on the lake. All you need apart from showers for 10 eu, that’s including EHU. Done 12 miles partly round the lower lake. Stopped to help a couple who were taking selfies. Asked if they wanted me to take a photo in my best broken English and sign language. Turns out they were from Sunderland 😂. Went out for a pizza to a highly recommended restaurant, it was packed , but pizza was nowt to right home about. Two meals out in Italy and two were 👎.
