    Gretna NOT Gretna Green

    Sep 14–15, 2024 in Scotland ⋅ 🌬 16 °C

Meet Frankie, our new playmate for Ronnie and Leo! If you haven’t seen him before, check out ‘ChickenHappyHour’ on Insta (makes me giggle every morning!)
Early start this morning. First stop on our way down to the ferry - gosh it takes forever to get anywhere from Elgin! Ha ha
Traffic & Roadworks horrendous but we made it in time to catch the Caledonia Outlet Mall before it closed! 😜
Smashing stopover at Surrone House Motorhome Aire, Gretna.
Extremely windy all the way down. Here’s hoping for a good sleep tonight.

  • Its NOT a Sunday Drive….::

    Sep 15–16, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

So……started off with Michael Ball, then onto Paddy McGuinness, then Elaine Paige and then finally onto Mark Goodier spouting his Pick of the Pops….:it was an epic 6 & 1/2 hour drive to get here! We’d booked in for a pub stopover and a carvery but when we got there there was absolutely no parking whatsoever!!
Anyway after some narrow lanes and horrible
branches scraping the sides of Leo we came across The Golden Cross Inn. A lovely country pub who told us when we arrived that we were welcome to stay but that the kitchen was closed! 😳 we were starving having looked forward to our carvery all day!
Anyway we decided that crackers and cheese would suffice and went to the bar for a couple of drinks.
5 minutes later the waitress appeared saying she’d asked the chef and he’d offered to put together a Roast Chicken Dinner for us (and delicious it was too!) in between his Wedding Tasting Presentation!! How kind was that! The goodness of folks eh?!? Here’s to a good nights sleep after a lovely bottle of Viognier! 😜

  • M25 🤦🏼‍♀️

    Sep 16–17, 2024 in England ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

So another loooooog day of driving! However stopped off to visit Steve’s cousin, Denise, whom he hasn’t seen for about 30 years! She kindly let us have a lovely shower and fed us homemade chocolate cake before setting us on our way again headed for the Newhaven Ferry Port.
A bit peckish we headed for the closest eatery - KFC 🤢 but filled a hole!
Now a quick visit to Aldi before back to Leo in the Port car park before ferry in the morning.

  • Rouen

    Sep 18–20, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌬 23 °C

I had read that Rouen was like York on steroids, and it didn’t disappoint. What a lovely city. Parked at Port De Plaisance, a marina, absolutely perfectly placed for a 15 minute cycle ride into the City. Another great day in a great country. Would definitely recommend both the park up and City.

  • To ‘beer’ or not to ‘beer’!

    September 19, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

So after a good sleep and a leisurely morning we decided to go for a cycle ride to find the Ragnar Microbrewery and taste a few of their ales! A 20 mile round trip in 25°C heat and when we reached said brewery it was the warehouse for trade pick ups!!!!! No beer was to be tasted!!
A long journey back began and we found ourselves on a cycle path along the banks of the Seine River.
Never mind we found a wee Italian restaurant in Rouen and shared a lovely pizza/pasta and a much needed cold Coke!
Back to the van and chilled for the rest of the day with our kindles.

  • One of these day……

    Sep 20–22, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

So after Steve and Mum having the dreaded lurgy coming home from Thailand I thought I’d managed to avoid it….how wrong could I be……it’s just been this kind of day 🤧🤒🤕🤦🏼‍♀️
Drove to Chartres and parked up at Camping de Chartres - Les Bord de l’Eure. A lovely green campsite which we hope to see a bit more of tomorrow (and Chartres of course!)
So for now it’s a hot juice and off to bed 🥴

  • Getting back on track.

    September 23, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

Chartres, Moulins and now Aumont - Aubrac. We are two hours from the Med. Very little has happened as it’s just been a couple of days of long driving and doing very little sight seeing on the way. Suzan is taking every potion I happen to pick up at the Pharmacies when out for the Croissants to try and get this dam cold under control and get some strength back. Let’s see what tomorrow brings. Chartres is a vibrant town, Moulins we didn’t see and A-A is a small town with a great little Aire and not a bad little restaurant. The Cheesy mash was to die for. Hoping for a better day tomorrow.Read more

  • Marseillan.

    September 24, 2024 in France ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Pitched up at Camping Les Mediterranees for a couple of nights, mainly to catch up on chores. This site is one part of 4 holiday camps adjacent to each other and it was right on the beach. Great for families but not us. All camps , stores, restaurants close at the end of this week. The place was dead. The town of Marseillan was a 30 minute ride and had a great little Marina with bustling restaurants.Read more

  • St. Cyprien.

    September 26, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Stopover on an Aire at the port. Served its purpose. Found somewhere at last to get some provisions. Sat and chatted to some Brummies most of the afternoon. A 5 minute jolly into the town. Suzan hopefully has turned the corner. And today it was 🥵. The trip hasn’t really taken off yet 🤔Read more

  • Freshinet……

    October 2, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

For those of you who, like me, have never known how to pronounce FREIXENET, this is how they say it at the Cellars - “Freshinet”!
After 5 days of chilling and me recuperating from a horrid chest infection by a beautiful beach near L’Estartit, we moved on to an aire at the Olympic Stadium in Terrassa. Well that was our plan but when we got there it just didn’t feel right - so the beauty of having a home on wheels is that you just move on! So we did and found ourselves on the last spot on the aire by Sant Sadurni d’anoia.
We came here as there is a Cava festival
    on this weekend called Cavatast.
After a smashing sleep we got up and cycled into the town for a tour/tasting at the chocolate factory of Simon Coll. Very interesting and of course there was a shop at the end! 😋
Then after all that chocolate tasting we were a little dry……did someone say that this is the Spanish home of Cava???
Off we went to the Freixenet Cellars for a very informative video and a most enjoyable 4 premium Cavas and paired nibbles - followed, of course, by the obligatory visit to their shop…….
Back to Leo for a Suzan doctored pizza which Steve said was next level! Ha ha
Having now done a Cava tasting we’re going to move on South tomorrow.

  • Casa De Fusta

    October 4, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Right in the middle of a rice growing area not far from Amposta. A free park up although it’s 5 euro for services. Great restaurant and log cabin bar with shaded area. And a bit of exercise today after to many shandies last night 🥴. Lots of spaces even for the largest of MHs. A couple of days chillin. 👍Read more

  • Valencia

    Oct 7–10, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 26 °C

Parked up at Devesa Gardens Resort for a few days next to our friends Mandy & Bryn. Washing catch up and some housekeeping done. Lovely BBQ dinner and a good catch up on the first night with a cheeky wee cocktail for Mandy and I! Next day bus into Valencia from right outside the campsite. €1.50 bargain! Fab day in Valencia taking in the sights including a lovely wine and tapas lunch in a lovely old square. Manicure for both of us girls and a bit of shopping - shattered! Ha ha
Short bike ride yesterday and chilled the rest of the day before fajitas for dinner.
Left this morning for Benidorm (wish me luck!! 😜)

  • The Dorm.

    October 12, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

The last time I was in Benidorm was in 1979, roll on 45 years and I’m back again with some of the lads I was with 45 years ago. Absolutely cracking two days. Has it changed 🤔. Don’t know my memory is not that good 😂🥴.
First time for Suzan, not sure she will be hurrying back, it turns out it wasn’t Ed Sheeran in the bar after all.. Me - I loved it .

  • Orange groves and almond trees!

    Oct 13–16, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We spent a night at Daimus on a park up - had to park in the middle so moved on after just one night. However we cycled out to the point on the marina (forgot to take any pics🤦🏼‍♀️) and on the way back stopped off for some fab patatas bravas and a bowl of mussels between us washed down with a nice cold beer.
Onwards to Alcossebre and the site was excellent. Only short walk from the beach and all facilities.
Went off for a great cycle through the orange groves and came across fields of artichokes and almond trees as well as a huge herd of sheep and a flock of egret following them! Found ourselves in a wee village called Bajo in Torreblanco where we stumbled on a smashing wee cafe called Bar Maria - all you can eat paella and wine! We decided that we’d share a plate of paella as we had planned to eat later (probably safer as we had to cycle back! 🤣)
    Lovely couple of nights

  • Change of scenery….

    Oct 16–17, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Fancied a change of scenery today so we headed inland and up into the mountains! Steve did a marvellous job - all in prep for our journey back over the Pyrenees 😜
Ended up in an absolutely stunning spot - free park up overlooking the valley and beyond.
In the little village of El Masroig there is a winery run by a cooperative of 120 people. Booked ourselves in for the Express wine tour and tasting. Decided to have a walk up into the wee village and find somewhere for a cold refreshment - wow what a view! Sitting next to bowls of succulent we enjoyed our beer with a view as far as the eye could see! Our wine tour was really informative on the wines and the grapes grown in the area. After purchasing some wine of course we headed back to the van with a view to chill for a bit before heading out to the only restaurant (a lady’s home in actual fact) here for dinner. Oops! Arrived to find that they’d had a family Birthday party and weren’t serving dinner! Shame as it had great reviews!
Anyway back to the van for…..yup you’ve guessed it….cheese and crackers (works every time!)
Woke this morning to the most spectacular storm - amazing rain and lightening and who on earth crossed Thor in the night??????? WOW!

  • Hanging onto Spain - Pineda de Mar

    October 21, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 23 °C

Inching up the coast towards France and getting as much sun as possible, before the inevitable 😢. Camping Enmar for 5 nights, a bike ride to Callella and Blanes - a tired looking beach resort. The sun shone and we thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days. Got a liking for Cava Sangria. 🥂👍Read more

  • Beziers

    Oct 24–25, 2024 in France ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Arrived in Beziers late morning to an overnight park up on a vineyard. After a spot of lunch headed off on our bikes to find Les 9 Écluses de Fonseranes (9 locks). Short ride away and we thought we’d landed in Fort Augustus! Ha ha
Locked up the bike and boarded the wee tourist train that takes you on a round trip around Beziers.
A lovely old and extremely ‘French’ town with some beautiful architecture and even a Galleries Lafayette?!?
We got off in the centre and had a wander round before getting the train back to the locks and cycling back to the park up.
Just got back in time to have a wine tasting and obligatory purchase!
Back to Leo for dinner and some tv catch up this evening.

  • Avignon.

    Oct 25–27, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

What a cracking stopover. Avignon, inside the walls, is a place not to be missed. The architecture, medieval winding streets, the Cafe culture and the rest. We were threatened with two days of thunder and rain showers, but it never came off , the sun gods were on our side. We stayed Aire Bagatelle, and with bikes it was a 5 minute ride into the “walls”. And the indoor market - the produce was 👍. We will definitely be back.Read more

  • Ribeauville

    October 28, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Alsace region of France. And absolutely beautiful medieval town centres. And for the 28th October the weather was brilliant. Very pleased we headed this way on the way home back to the U.K. cycled into town from the campsite and wandered round the cobbled streets. At Xmas time it must be amazing. Can’t under estimate how beautiful the towns are round here. The photos don’t do it justice. Check out the loaf. How many tubs of Lurpak would I need to get through that 😉Read more

  • Alsace - we’ll definitely be back!!!

    October 29, 2024 in France ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Wow wow wow! What a magical place Riquewihr is! It’s like stepping back in time with tiny cobbled streets, artisan shops. wonky coloured buildings with wooden jetties, crémant and tarte flambée au Munster!!!
The hills getting there along the rue de vignoble from Ribeauville were, however, anything but magical - even on an e-bike! We definitely picked a better route to get back along a flat road and through the vineyards.

  • Strasbourg

    October 30, 2024 in France ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

The Sun ran out of steam for a few days and the mist rolled in - but it was dry. From Camping Strasbourg its cycle path and cycle lanes into the heart of the city, about 10 minutes. Bicycles everywhere and it’s difficult to find a space to lock up our bikes. In the middle, is Petite France - the medieval part. So beautiful, as is the food and the beers. 😉. Definitely worth visiting.Read more

  • Little Carcassonne - Rodemack

    November 1, 2024 in England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Holed up on a free aire put in by the council. Rodemack has a defensive wall round it, built by the villagers in the 13th century, of which 700m remain. The main arched entrance was partially dynamited by the Americans in 1944 so they could get access to the village to liberate it. Other than that it’s not one of the most picturesque medieval villages we’ve been to, and, it was All Saints Day so the village was shut 😉. Nice and peaceful night though as we journey to Calais.Read more

  • Allo, Allo! Han Sur-Lesse!

    Nov 2–3, 2024 in Belgium ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Stopover on our way West through Belgium. Lovely little town. Parked up on a pretty tight side and another four legged furry friend decided he wanted to spend a bit of quality time in Leo! Gorgeous pussycat and so friendly! Popped out for a wander and the obligatory Belgium Beer! WOW strong stuff! Thought we caught sight of Renée from Allo Allo in an upstairs window - shouted ‘Good Moorning’ but no response I’m afraid! Ha ha
Small fair on this weekend so we had to have a cone of ‘frites’ from the food truck - lipsmackingly good! Watched Strictly and headed for bed for an early getaway in the morning.
