Travel to Bath

On a bright November morning following rain we set out for Paddington Station. Here we boarded the 11.00 train to Bristol Temple Meads. 90 minutes later we alighted at Bath Spa, finding our hotel, the Royal just opposite. The hotel was designed by engineer and architect Isambard Kingdom Brunel and built in 1846 when the Great Western Railway got to Bath Spa.
Our package included champagne cream tea, which we took in the 1846 bar on arrival.
During the afternoon we took a walk through the city. Passing the theatre we saw there was a play by William Gaminara (Leo from Silent Witness) that evening, the Nightingales, so we booked. We continued on to the Crescent and along round the Circus, both fabulous curved terraces of Georgian houses, then down to Poulteney Bridge over the river and a quick look in the rugby ground.
Back at the hotel we had time for 2-4-1 cocktails , Bramble and Breakfast Martini before heading out to Brasserie Blanc Bath pre theatre meal and the play. The playhouse has charming ornately decor and is quite small. The play was amusing in part and entertaining and seems to be destined for the west end.
