    Batavia wreck site

    March 25 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 24 °C

    Beautiful sunrise
Morning Explorer trip to Morning reef where Batavia ran aground on 4 June 1629
Pretty choppy so abandoned thoughts of a snorkel there
Instead headed to Long Island and found a sheltered cove with a sea lion and extensive colourful reef with many many fish of different sizes and colours
Lunch of chicken Caesar salad, or salmon poke, carrot cake and fruit
Early afternoon off to Beacon Island where Cornelius set up, while dispersing other wreck survivors to neighbouring islands
Went for a snorkel although the visibility wasn’t great and short walk where we saw 2 sea lions and reef heron
16.30 set sail for Shark Bay in glorious sunshine
Evening cocktails on the Bridge Lounge deck, followed by Recap/Precap talk by Wayne (who had a bit of a day) then excellent dinner of soup/ lamb or barramundi/ sticky date desert with ice cream
The full moon rose at 18.58 just after sunset - a spectacular sight at sea
Stars on deck 7 clear but spoilt by ambient ship’s lights
