    A few hours drive south towards Toulon. First stop for food at a large truck stop. Ate at “Hippopotamus “.
    Lots of traffic on a large highway. Met a lovely woman named “ Luigivan”, she’ll reach out on Facebook.Read more

    Marseilles

    Traveled into Marseilles today, which was starkly different from the other parts of France I’ve seen. The roadways are very confusing and impossible to park anywhere.
    Finally gave up on trying to visit a castle, and were able to get lunch at a wonderful Boulangerie.
    We joked that Marseilles was the Baltimore of France! 😂    Read more

    Evening in Toulon

    After our visit to Marseilles, it was a delight to return to Toulon.
    I took my boots off and walked in the water of the Mediterranean Sea, along the beach I picked up a few “ special” rocks as mementos.
    We then gathered in the garden patio for drinks and photographed the spectacular sunset.
    Resting a bit before dinner, and hopefully the hot tub on our balcony later, with a nice bottle of French wine 🍷    Read more

    Gap, France / Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur

    What a stark difference from Toulon! We are now traveling towards Grenoble and Annecy, in the French Alps! Holy smokes! Staying overnight in Gap, in a chalet type inn.
    The mountains and views are spectacular! It’s colder and the air is crisp and fresh.Read more

    We stayed at Les Olivades in Gap, a very quaint Inn. The restaurant at the inn was such a fantastic surprise, very unique and delicious food!

    Oh my goodness! We are staying at the Imperial Palace, and it is as the name suggests! Just exquisite! E arrived on New Year’s Eve, which is also Tom’s 26th birthday.
    All the restaurants were full, not taking reservations, so we ordered room service and partied up in Tom’s suite. E were able to watch fireworks from his 8th floor balconies that were happening all over the town below.
    Waking up on New Year’s Day, I went out to my balcony to beautiful ravens that just made it feel so magical. Allison and I walked the paths along the lake, and also quite a walk through some of the outskirts of town. Later afternoon we went to the Old Town of Annecy, it was bustling with people, impossible to find parking, so Dave dropped us off and drove around while we explored a little bit.    Read more

    Leaving Annecy heading to Lyon, France. The terrine was delicious, and l’ouefs mayonnaise avec mutard. The truck stops on the highway have actual nice restaurants!
    Arriving in Lyon, the outskirts were really sketchy, but once you get into the heart of the city, it’s absolutely incredible!Read more

    Morning in Lyon

    The streets are amazing here, there are many streets that no cars are allowed, pedestrian and bicycles only, lots of people on bicycles, and uber eats on bikes!
    Allison and I found a delicious patisserie for our coffee and pastries. The French do not like to offer cream with their coffee, or butter for pastries oddly, lol. We have to ask and most times they do not have it. 🤔 because they have delicious cream and buere!Read more

    The cobblestone streets have little reflective dots here and there that were placed to help the Roman’s navigate them in the dark with their torch light.Read more

    Goodbye France, hello London!

    Delays caused us to miss our connection in London, airline put us up in the Renaissance Hotel, very nice, we fly to Montreal at 3 pm Sunday.
    Views leaving France and coming into London, including flying over Windsor Castle!!
    I had the best battered fish dinner ever, then a drink with Dave and Tom, as tradition would have it! 😉    Read more
