    Eyemouth

    June 3, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

We stopped off to have lunch with a cousin in Eyemouth on our way south to Yorkshire. Massive crab salad. And great chat. Many a great holiday there as a kid and with V when she was a kid. We all used to go to Lossiemouth too. Great times.Read more

    Travelling back

    June 3, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

BnB for evening. We left before 12. Stopped at Eyemouth to have lunch with mums cousin. So lovely. What a view from the golf club. Excellent crab salad even if it had weird additions like a pile of grated cheddar and a whole booked egg. Anyhoo enough left for a light supper

Our stay is a bit weird cos mum has left her hearing aid charger behind! Sound off and sending messages or typing notes on iPad. V will do super delivery post tomorrow and we will stop at Boots in Newcastle to see if they can charge her up! Another charger is about £150! Jings.

Southbound trip. Stopped at Longhoughton for BnB. Then today we had a wander in Alnmouth to see the sea. Tide was out...

Our coffee stop was Mount Grace Priory on the A19. Tiny tea room. Excellent service. Lovely scones. Proper brew.

    Home and knackered.

Trying to find a cool spot...

    June 10, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    Wow. Summer has arrived.

I have built the new seats for my summer visitors and have been driving myself mad trying to find a shade solution for the top deck. So far the best one is a camping awning. Gives some shade. Keeps house cool. But the deck is just HOT regardless. Pimm's may have been consumed.Read more

    Mums cuzins.

    June 12, 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Met mums cousins for.lunch today at the Bluebell Inn at Wentbridge. I used to pass it going between schools and it was half way between. The cousins had fun ordering the Pensioners lunch! 😂 I went fancy and had a katsu cauliflower curry. It was the best thing in ages! Definitely worth the trip.

Summer activities continue. Maybe fancy gardens later this week.

    Old friends

    August 10, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌙 22 °C

Train up to stay with a friend near Leighton Buzzard. We talked and talked and talked and laughed. It has been so long . Only one photo from this morning while I was drinking coffee number 1.

Then back into London to get train back to York. Stopped off at the British Library. Might do a proper visit another time. Such a peaceful place.

Ah trains... A house in the village used to be a pub. The pub where the Great Train Robbery was planned.

  • Day 77

YOUsies do York & East Yorkshire

    August 18, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

    Tuesday to Friday.

    Barbara Vienna came to stay!

Took no photos Tuesday when we wandered the streets of York, cooled down in the Minster. I love the Chapter best. Had a massive cherry scone and pot of tea in Browns. Ages since I've been in there. Just don't mooch in York these days. Then back to Pock for tea I prepared earlier.
Wednesday I was awake early and plundered the brambles across the road for breakfast. It was warm so we drove up to Buddhist Centre so dogs didnt overheat. Lots of lovely flowers round the lake. Of course we had tea and cake. Then a tootle in our part of Wolds over to Robert Fuller's gallery. Home again quick lunch then POOL BRIDGE FARM! We had a glorious swim in the Monet Lake and a big mug of tea when we got out. I took the china mugs! John took us out for tea to Gait Inn. Yummy Yorkshire puds were eaten.
Thursday no fit state to drive but John was free to be our driver. Flamborough Head. Lighthouse. Chalk cliff, wave cut platform. Seals a bobbing. Too many people. And cherry Mr Moo ice cream. Bempton Cliffs next stop. GANNETS my favourite and a pleasant stroll along clifftop. Opposite direction now. Sledmere for a cuppa on way back. Luckily I had fed us all on scrambled eggs before we left. Big green flan and spicy potatoes for tea.
Friday.... LAST DAY 😭. Up early and off to meet another YOUsie for brekkie at the Perky Peacock. In their dungeon by the river on Lendal Bridge. Quick trip to Dutton's for Buttons, then the Yorkshire Starbucks mug. Oh no. Train time. 😭

What a wonderful few days. What a lovely lovely special lady. My new IRL YOUsie friend. 🥰 My heart sings.

Body not so happy. Spent 4 hours so far in bed. Payback for over using spoons I did not have. Feeling peckish now. Off to see what famalam want to eat. Probably 🍕 or 🐟 and 🍟. Saves me cooking.

    I Found Penguins...

    August 24, 2023 in England ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

    Oops I mean YOUsies.

What a fab summer of YOUsie YOUmeets.

Nadja and I had arranged to meet in the dreaded 2020. Was not to be. So when the PowerTeen asked for a trip to London after her finished school it was back on! We had a lovely afternoon. With delicious ice cream, so much chat and meeting her pen friend too.

Before that Barbara NZ suddenly out of nowhere went on a big trip to US, Iceland, Scandinavia, and UK. I loved our afternoon in York. Too, too short.

Then Barbara Vienna arrived on her 3 week tour. It was brilliant following her trip and seeing all the YOUsies she managed to meet. Amazing. And we had 3 grand days in Yorkshire. Lots of trips here and there punctuated with scones, cake and ice cream.

Finally, Lizzie for breakfast on way to drop Barbara at station. I've seen her work on IG. Nice to meet even though we weren't coYOUsies. But all YOUsies are family.

So that's a wrap. No more big events and autumn just around the corner. With a trip home.

  • Day 87

    Durham Meeting Point.

    August 28, 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Well, I forgot about my trip to Durham. Lorna and I meet here as mid wayish from Pockletown and Edinburgh. Not since before YouKnowWhat.

What a pleasant surprise it has lost its run down feel. A few shops still empty. Tesco instead of M&S and lots of new restaurants.

Alas, if you have been on YOU or HappyFeed you will know within half an hour of arriving I got clobbered by a migraine. Boots were lovely and sold me a packet of meds. I'm not sure if they worked or not. Because I felt awful. I managed up the hill and into the cathedral but then it hit good and proper. Sweats, shivers, nausea, bit of head pain. So I spent 45 mins outside with head between my knees. Once the nausea was over I just had the jitters. But a wander and a sit in the Cloister helped.

I couldn't look at the Gaia installation. Such a pity. Made my head reel. But we got into the Chapter room now it's open to public. (Harry Potter location for the fans) and then walked around looking at my favourite windows and the tapestries.

After we sauntered down the hill and found a great spot by the river. I barely managed to eat my scone and drink a cup of tea. The menu was great and we plan out Xmas outing there. I was grateful for the new cosy shawl that I had bought in the cute shop up near the cathedral.

We walked up the river to Prebends Bridge which I hadn't been on since my interview day in 1982. Did not get a place a DUni. Their loss. And I wouldn't have met J... Then back down other side and headed to station.

So despite it all a nice day. Lots of chat. More behind us than in front. Both trying to 'settle' in the positions we find ourselves. And just being friends of nearly 30 years!!! Noooo. Yes. Blimey.
