  • Day 1. Madrid

    September 9, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Our trip started with a tapas meal.
    6 different restaurants.
We started with anchovies which I never thought I liked...turns out I was wrong. 😁
We ended with a shot of sweet wine that was served in the end of an icecream cone dipped in chocolate and that becomes the small shot glass! The entire evening was wonderful. Alex was our guide and was really good at explaining the food and it's significance.
Up early tomorrow to meet the rest of our tour group!
    Great first day in Madrid!

  • First walking day. 8.4 miles

    September 11, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

    11. The beginning of the 8.4 miles. Stretching...
    2. Our first stamps in our pilgrims passport.
All of the walkers are called pilgrims. And in order to receive the Compostela at the end we need to stamps in our passport each day .
    3. Sometimes in order to use the bathroom along the way you need to buy a little something. Here is the almond butter cake that we cut into many bite size pieces to share!
    4. Anita and I all smiles
    5. As close to the running of the bulls as I care to get
    6. These steps had me freaking out the entire day! Got to the top without a problem! 🤪😁👍
We are headed out in the bus for day 2 of our walk. This one is longer. About 11 miles. 🙏
There are 2 ladies with us in their 80s that are with us. What an inspiration!

  • Day 4. Our longest walking day

    September 11, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Started out today with a few nerves. This was our longest walking day, 11.9 miles. It really is amazing how fast it can go when you are walking and talking and hearing people's life stories.
    1. This is grain storage
    2. Ancient Celtic ruins
    3. Church from 15th century
    4. Garden of the new Manor house. Our accomodations for the next 2 nights!

  • Day 5 and still smiling (mostly)

    September 12, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

    1. So many beautiful hydrangeas along the way! My favorite!!!
2 the best Spanish omelet! After having walked 8 miles!
    3. Anita with some of our group! We really have met so many wonderful people on this trip. Our group is amazing
    4. As I type I am lying flat on the bed with my freshly showered feet up on the wall to help prevent swelling. 😁
So far we are more than 30 miles into our way and I am loving it. Walking and talking and the talking makes the walking go quite fast! I must say that today was mostly uphill. Kind of a gentle incline for half of it and climbing for the other half. Have I mentioned to you all that there's two 80 + year olds with us? They are simply amazing and are rocking this walk! At the end of each segment,I was very happy to see our van waiting at different checkpoints so that I could grab another bottle of water or a quick snack.and as you can see from some of the pictures we've had the most amazing weather. Today was the warmest.
after we all finished up walking, we went directly to an artesian cheese making class. It was a lot of fun. But I won't show you my cheese because it just looks like a little white blob.!

  • Day 6. O Coto to Boente 7.6 miles

    September 13, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    1. Beautiful views
    2. Small church along the way
    3. Quick break which proved very difficult for me to get started again afterwards.
    4. Cute pink car that was beside a small kiosk .
    5. We went to an octopus restaurant. Yup, still don't like it. But had to order a small plate just to try.
    6. Our 2 guides. Esther and Herman. The are so wonderful. Herman reminds me of my brother in law....he's calm and speaks English with a Spanish accent! They seem to anticipate your every need/want. Even arranging massages for us this evening!
    7. The van/ bus meets us at check points. It's loaded with fruit snacks and water...also our suitcases

Another beautiful day of walking...so many pilgrims...today we finished 55.5% of The Way from Sarria to Santiago. Today was a lighter day walking but the last half proved to be exhausting for me! Our new Manor house is just out of the movies..once I get freshened up I will post more!

  • Day? I fell behind in posting

    September 13, 2019 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Ok so truth be told I really fell behind in posting anything. Partly because I had some trouble with WiFi and partly because I was flat out exhausted. Our tour was active with not a lot of downtime. The first day that I didn't post was the day I came home from walking, showered off my feet (a whole new meaning to the washing of feet now) and dove into bed. I tried waking up that afternoon 3 times and felt as though I could have slept the night through. However I knew I'd miss dinner. So as always food motivated me to open my eyes and get myself ready for dinner😁
    The pictures...
    1. Our crazy your guides who took such good care of us. Anticipated our every need. Esther and German (pronounced Herman) I forgot to mention that what they are showing you is octopus. It's what was for lunch. I have had an open mind the whole trip but this is my second try at it and yeah.... They have nothing to fear from me. I'll stick with shrimp!
    2. Beautiful view from our room
    3. Grapevine arbor terrace at our accommodation. Just beautiful!
    4. Underneath the grapevine terrace and Esther getting ready to treat a blister that I never felt coming on... No hot spot, just took my shoe off and there it was. The medical/blister kit that they carry is huge! I will spare you the pictures of the toe. I never had any pain from it! 👍
    5. We were highly encouraged to soak our feet if the manor houses had a pool. I didn't do this one day and realized it was a mistake.
    Thanks for following me!
