• Day 10 - Kimba to The Clare Valley

    Aug 4–7 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Up early for an early start. Did I mention how cold the nights have been?

Pretty much a standard day so far but that eventually changed as we reached the more populous areas of SA.

Gail would regularly update the family with where we were at or passing through and today happened to be a place called Iron Knob…..some of you may know which of our children chose to provide an x-rated retort.

The roads slowly lost their appeal as not belonging to us……more and more traffic, which of course meant more and more frustration with crazy drivers.

WAZE let Peter and Julie (and thus all of us) down big time. We pulled into Port Augusta trying to find a van friendly shopping centre but we ended up somewhere very different.

On the road from there we encountered a number of “exciting” events……dipstick drivers, road works that actually had people working, people on scooters on major roads and huge over size loads (refer to video).

One clown who overtook us, copped the wrath of a driver on the other side of the road which resulted in a war of expletives on channel 40. Gail took the details of the truck (company name), wrote them an email and received a very quick and poignant response. I think that driver might be in a spot of bother.

All that aside the drive into the Clare Valley was great. Found our caravan park, got set up and walked 300 metres to Claymore Wines. First winery and of course we couldn’t go without a purchase.

Great music and Liverpool FC themed wines and displays.

I was adamant we couldn’t buy and carry given the potential weight that we would be carrying by the end of the trip, so the use of free delivery was favoured (but of course free delivery was dependent on the amount you purchased).

Dinner at the camp kitchen turned into a very social event. Met a great bunch of guys staying in the park, contracted to prune trees surrounding power lines.

Shared a story or 2 (and drinks of course) around the communal firepit (which cost us $74 for wood). Tomorrow’s firewood will be supplied by our new found tree lopper friends.

    Loved Pete’s aged rum.

    That is all!!!!
