• Day 29 - Hebel to Charlotte Plains

    Aug 23–26 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

And, just for something different….another stunning morning.

When camping for a single night, getting underway the next day is very easy.

But before we got under way, a visit to the general store for a brekky burger and coffee was required.

Of course, who do we meet? None other than Dane…..last nights entertainment eating his breakfast before he departed.

Upon his departure, he insisted on reliving Peter’s moment from last night. Please refer to the attached video clip.

Upon hitting the bitumen our departure was rudely interrupted by the rapid fire mud and Bluemetal separating from our all terrain tyres and pummelling our wheel arches.

A fuel stop in a place called Dirrabandi saw Anne carve out her own potential new river transversing an already soft piece of ground to get to the unmanned bowsers.

Including stops I think we took about 4 hours to get here. Here being a private station with a few very basic amenities with the main attraction being hot artesian water. Not just a bath or 2, but a whole bloody river.

Post set up the hunter and gatherer ritual got underway. Man he get firewood. Given the popularity of and longevity of this place obtaining said firewood was proving rather difficult. To obtain suitable firewood required navigating deep into the bush and a super human effort. Graham took on this challenge and was able to ”leap wild rivers in a single bound” and place himself in uncharted territory. The supply was now endless. Nothing frightens a Triton, so said supply was piled in Grahams car and returned to camp to be put to good use - warmth and the production of dinner. Peter was supposed to make good use of technology and “pin” this location on Google Maps to facilitate returning tomorrow, but we’re not sure his tech skills in doing this are up to standard.

Julie and Peter took some time to clean their palace.

Speaking of dinner. We picked up a few locally made snaggers at the Hebel General store before we left. They were huge. Compare them to the size of a meal of ribs from the Flintstones.
