• Day 40 - Kinka Beach to Agnes Water

    Ditto

Up early again for another pack a way. We had some ham and cheese and left over meat that we enjoyed on fresh bread and buns before hitting the road.

Today was about a three and a half our drive on somewhat better but definitely busier roads.

Pretty uneventful other than a few numpty drivers that copped our wrath over channel 18.

Whilst on about channel 18, some Queensland dip sticks use it for work related purposes. Nationally it’s accepted as the channel for grey nomads in caravans.

I whipped up a batch of spicy chicken wings that everyone seemed to love and Graham whipped up a secret sauce for our spaghetti bol and meatballs, also loved by all.

But the highlight of the day (and probably the journey to date) without a doubt goes to Mr Jones.

Settling in for the evening most of us grabbed a beer or 3. Mr Jones broke out the vino and shared it with Gail. Unfortunately it wasn’t to Gail’s liking so she withdraw which was wise given the pace Mr Jones set.

Bear in mind most evenings we’re tucked up in bed anywhere between 7.30 and 8.30. Tonight was the much anticipated Dockers Hawthorn match.

Karen, being a Hawthorn die hard was not confident in a win given the Dockers record this season. Peter on the other hand is a tragic Eagles fan (as are most us on this journey are) who is consumed by an irrational hatred of the Dockers. (Something that has been questioned during one of our previous Kahoots games where his knowledge of the Dockers was outstanding. His reasoning……you must know your enemy).

Anyway, somewhere along the line said beer and wine started to impact Mr Jones’ cognitive ability, but he was going to be watching the game come he’ll or high water.

Earlier, before said cognitive ability was lost, during a reconnaissance of the park he located the perfect setting. The camp kitchen with TV and lounge chairs.

Mr Jones is a genuinely funny guy but during this period of cognitive impairment he had everyone in stitches. Video evidence does exist but will only be shared upon written application to Julie.

We settled in for the evening and to Mr Jones’ (and Karen of course) surprise, the Hawks started like a bat out of hell. They were on fire and so was Mr Jones. We reckon people on the other side of the park could hear his expletive laden chants of joy.

By the time he joined the land of nod, he was comforted by the fact it was half time and the Hawks had a very sizeable lead.

Needless to say he missed the whole second half.

By this time it was only Karen, Graham and I left with the ability to register the fact the Hawks had in fact beaten the odds and won. Mr Jones……..punching out zzzzzzz’s.

At the immediate conclusion of the game. The TV was shut down, the process of bringing Mr Jones to the world of the conscious commenced, albeit somewhat delicate.

“Pete, Pete, Pete, wake-up. Unfortunately they did it, the Dockers are on their way”.

Graham, Karen and I were somewhat amused Mr Jones hit the sack thinking the Dockers had won, although given his lack of ability to comprehend at that stage of the evening we weren’t sure if he would even remember.

All in all a great night and definitely the latest of our trip to date.

The video evidence I mentioned above has been retained for future purposes in the event one of us requires it for defence.
