• Day 42 - Agnes Water

    September 5 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Just for something different…..DITTO, again, with birds gleefully filling the air with happiness.

Gail and I were the last to rise……..as usual. Not having canine companions means we have the luxury of not having to worry about such concerns.

Peter is slowly taking on the title of bird whisperer, trying to outdo Anne’s achievement of dog whisperer.

Rather than take pot luck like they did in Yeppoon, Gail booked the ladies in for a pedi.

The score is now 2 to 1, although Graham has determined we need adjudication. The ladies have been on 2 outings without the fellas of which both were devoid of invites to us. The one outing us fellas had in Theodore, only occurred as male only, because the ladies declined………they were invited.

I have just heard from the designated referee that Graham’s complaint has been upheld so us fellas are still entitled to 2 lady free outings.

Today turned out to be extremely relaxing for all. The ladies with their pedi and the fellas simply sitting and enjoying nature for one part followed by co-ed activities.

Julie located an unused game amongst the treasures in their van. None of us had heard of “Blank Slate” before but everyone enjoyed it.

Dinner tonight was Goat stew…….yes goat. We picked up a kilo of goat in Charleville and froze it. A 4 to 5 hour cook time was expected so we were able to undertake some of the activities described above and below between preparation and execution (we didn’t undertake that latter activity, I’m referring to the the eating of it).

Although it wasn’t a Thursday, Graham and Karen opted for a more traditional curry.

Whilst Peter and Julie dog sat, the rest of us jumped in the chariots and ascended the mountain (the same landmark Gail and I conquered the other day for Yoga) to observe the land based sunset. It didn’t disappoint as the images will attest to. The colour change in the hyper lapse image is very special.

Time for dinner. Whilst the goat meat itself was very nice, somewhat comparable to its stablemate lamb, I think I failed in the overall ability to have everyone’s taste buds dancing a jig. It just lacked the connection between the shoe and the floor. One suggestion was to use real stock instead of “Gravox”.

The fact there was a meal on slow cook in the communal camp kitchen did generate many comments and discussion. Even more so once the main ingredient was identified.

More AFL to entertain us today. The Swans proving they’ve still got it after a very tumultuous last few weeks downing their more favoured rivals the Lions, followed by Adelaide’s expected defeat over the Bulldogs.

Being a group of 7 can be a little imposing on other campers, but the balls of one fella to plonk himself right in the middle of the couch we had lay claim to. Peter moved in to read the riot act but the bloke was excused when he advised Peter his nephew was a winger for the Swans.

Half way through the second game, given no real vested interest, to the vans for a coffee/tea, then bed.
