    Eurostar

    September 23, 2019 in England ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

No Standard Premier today (birthdays only) so it's a DIY lunch on Eurostar's Standard class. Bacon. Mmmm nothing like the smell of a bacon sandwich. We are though talking Francis Bacon. That's why we are heading for Paris. We went to a Bacon exhibition back in 1996 at the Pompidou on 1st September. Bob (metaphorically) ran out screaming. And sadly I missed the London exhibition in 2008.
I am so looking forward to it. Bob - maybe less so!

So here we are. Deep breath for Bob and off we go. Not too busy. All the works relate to six literary, poetic and philosophical texts from books in Bacon's library (eg the Wasteland, Heart of Darkness, Oresteia) and booths were set up where you could hear the text being spoken. Struggled a bit with the concept but still enjoyed (if that's the right word) the exhibition. Dark, savage, visceral - what's not to like?!Read more

No - I said - I don't want to see old Italian paintings with cherubs. And yet here we are! Ok no cherubs and much better than expected helped by the fact that we don't have to pay. This is the private collection of an American couple and is referred to as the Alana collection as a contraction of their names Alvaro and Ana.

Most exciting though was that we finally managed to get into the very lovely cafe for lunch. Usually a very long queue of little old ladies. But not today.
