Southwards

Another beautiful day! We’re feeling incredibly lucky with the weather, every morning we are surprised to see sunshine - again!
Started the day with little wind becoming a lovely sailing breeze late morning for sailing around Nordkapp. Unfortunately, not where we were planning on going. But with such a lovely breeze, maybe we should… as our ex boss would say, ‘the plan is nothing but planning is everything’.
Our biggest restraint was a trickier section between Havøysund and Sørøya, where there are some strong tidal currents that don’t go well with a strong northwesterly wind, which is exactly what was forecasted in a couple of days.
After some time of considering options, we decided we didn’t have the time and we had already passed the true most northerly point of Europe. So we started the engine and headed into the wind to the south side of Magerøya.
The wind died off completely in the afternoon giving us glassy water and spectacular scenes with the sun dogs reflected in the water.
Our anchorage for the night was a bay south of Honningsvåg, at the entrance of the tunnel to Magerøya. This was another bay not mentioned in the charts or guide books as a good anchorage, but it proved to be beautiful!Read more
