A ‘spacious’ boat again

The original plan was to drop Russell’s mum off in Tromsø, however with the little delay in Alta and the unpredictability of the weather (as seen in the screenshot, planning around the weather can be tricky..) we decided finishing her trip along the coast by ferry was the best option.
Øksfjord was a cute little village which smelt like fish food (thanks to the fish food factory) and whose cafes or bars didn’t open until 4pm. Thankfully the nice ambulance boat people let us stay on the dock for a few hours and after a last lunch on the boat we said goodbye and waved her off from the water on our way to Tverrfjordbotn for the night. Although the trip while Russell’s Mum joined didn’t go exactly to plan, it was always known that the plan would probably change with such extreme environments, and a boat so cheap it was basically free…The best part is that Russell’s Mum was up for all of it, and was just happy joining us for part of the adventure, which not only made it fun to have her join, but also made some of the harder moments a little easier. Positive company in hard times can still be nicer than negative company in easy times.
Our boat was suddenly feeling quite spacious again, despite the man on the dock telling us ‘that’s not a boat! It’s a shoe’.

Once anchored, Russell decided to show off his manliness and wave around our ridiculously long fishing rod - and actually caught a fish! So it was Atlantic cod in creamy garlic lemon sauce for dinner. Rather fancier than we were expecting!Read more
