  • Reykjavík

    7 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Overcast in Reykjavík today, so after an explore to see the cathedral, we went for a soak in a geothermal swimming pool (with wave machine and slide), had ice cream shakes Iceland style, and some fantastic slow cooked lamb from Hersir for dinner. Oh, and we found Iceland in Iceland!Leer más

  • Northern Lights

    8 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ 🌧 12 °C

Our final day in Reykjavik so we made the most of it. First up, a trip to Perlan where we explored an ice cave and saw the Northern Lights. No, really! Then after a hearty lamb soup for lunch we checked out the beautiful Harpa opera house (where they also serve wine and macarons) and then we flew over Iceland at, er, FlyOver Iceland. We then cured our motion sickness with alcohol and some live music.Leer más

  • Golden Circle

    9 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ 🌧 11 °C

Golden Circle today. First Thingvellir National Park (spelt in Icelandic with a special 'p'), where the earth has been torn in two - so we walked down the middle. Then Geysir. Wait for it. Wait. Wait. Whoosh! Am now about to go in a hot tub at Frost and Fire hotel in Hveragerði.Leer más

  • Volcano, waterfall and the black beach

    10 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Having seen a live volcano, we went today to see a daad one. After walking the Kerid crater, onwards for a coffee at the brilliant Dome Cafe, and then we walked behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Our final stop was the deadly but beautiful Black Beach at Reynisfjara. Lots of driving today but the scenery is incredible here - huge hills appear out of nowhere, and parts of the road feel like driving over the moon.Leer más

  • Snow fight

    10 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

Snowmobiling today on Langjokull glacier. After putting on snow suits and helmets we drove in a converted bus up to the glacier. We got a quick lesson in driving the snowmobile (lean in to the direction of steering or it topples!) and then we were off. It was surprisingly hard to control the snowmobile but amazing once we got up to the snow. We stopped for a snowball fight (which the guides enthusiastically participated in) and then sped back at up to 30km/hour. We checked out Gullfoss waterfall which was big, impressive and wet, and then on the way back had a soak in the Secret Lagoon (which is a secret that seems to have got out...!).Leer más

  • Skaftafell

    12 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ ☀️ 8 °C

Busy day today. Off early for a glacier hike, complete with crampons and ice pick. Then a more sedate boat tour on a glacial lagoon. We made our contribution to glacial erosion by eating some ice.

  • Diamond beer

    12 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ ☀️ 10 °C

This afternoon we went to another glacial lagoon and to diamond beach (where the icebergs go to die) and then an evening stroll to the glacier behind the hotel. Glorious sunshine this afternoon. Celebrated with a beer brewed from a glacier.Leer más

  • Breiodalsvik

    13 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

We're now in East Iceland. Some very impressive scenery as we drove, including majestic fjords. We saw a turf rooved church at Hof, an amazing view of the ocean at Hofn (one letter makes a big difference here!), lunch and a quirky rock shop plus football at Djypivogur and an powerrfull waterfall at Svensstekkfoss.Leer más

  • Cars

    14 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

After me beating James at chess (actually rather more the other way around!), we went to the Factory Car Museum to see one of only two cars manufactured in Iceland and then James had a bounce on a large bouncy thing. So then he needed a massive milkshake.Leer más

  • Nature Baths

    14 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ 🌧 8 °C

As it turns out, bubbling pools of sulphur are really, really smelly. So much so, that you feel the urge to bathe in the stuff. Very surreal to see people outside bathing in hot milky water. Felt less surreal after a drink from the poolside bar. We are staying in a very funky hotel called Laxa, with ping pong!Leer más

  • See that poxy waterfall - now take this

    15 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ ☁️ 8 °C

A circular tour today. First up Husavik, where we went to the impressive whale museum. Whales are big. And, according to the video narrated by (who else?) David Attenborough, they are also clever. We then drove north in search of puffins (no, not to eat - we've heard you need 10 of them to feed a family for dinner). We did see some puffins but they stayed annoyingly far away. However, a pod of minky whales came out to play. Next stop Asbyrgi - an incredible horseshoe cliff. And finally Dentifoss - the king of waterfalls. So far...Leer más

  • Whales

    16 de agosto de 2022, Islandia ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

We checked out Akureyi today - Iceland's second city, avoiding the toll tunnel by taking a 15 minute scenic mountain drive. Whale watching was great as the sun was out as were a couple of humpback. James has acquired a drone so drony photos may follow. Pizza for dinner in Siglufjordor.Leer más
