    San Pedro de Atacama

    January 14, 2019 in Chile ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

The main town in this part of the desert. Located on the Atacama River, the largest river entering the desert from the Andes. All of the river water is diverted to canals, mostly for agriculture/irrigation. The second pic has one of the canals. San Pedro sits almost on the Tropic of Capricorn. The rest of the pics give a sense of this dusty town where the targets part if the economy is tourism.
We did a star walk one night, and I hoped to get a night sky picture. The Atacama is one of the places where a lot of astronomy is done be due to the sky conditions. Unfortunately, my camera couldn't do it.
